The Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) is responsible for strategic and operational nursing leadership in the development, deployment, re-engineering, optimization and integration of clinical information systems to support clinicians and patient care. The CNIO provides clinical leadership to advance Boston Medical Center's utilization of clinical information systems consistent with the goals and objectives of Boston Medical Center's clinical and strategic initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The CNIO leads nursing in the design and execution of technology-enabled process change that maximizes patient safety, quality of care and operational efficiency. This individual assists with the identification, evaluation, and assessment of new care delivery technology, developing recommendations on the impact of integration with existing workflows and systems.

As an experienced clinician and leader, the CNIO will be uniquely positioned to truly understand the value that a particular technology can bring to the advancement of nursing practice and quality of care at Boston Medical Center.

Embraces the Magnet culture, facilities the efforts of the informatics team and council to support the ongoing work to maintain Magnet designation. Contributes to the development of the Magnet document highlighting informatics' efforts and successes. Mentors the informatics team and council in their preparation for a site visit.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:


  • Graduate of an accredited Baccalaureate Program in Nursing.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Management Information Systems/business Administration or healthcare related field.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:


  • Active MA RN licensure required.
  • Formal training and education in Nursing Informatics and ANCC Informatics certification preferred.
  • Epic certification required (or obtained within 6 months of assuming the role)

EXPERIENCE:


  • Requires at least 10 years' work experience with at least 5 years in implementation, redesign or process work that includes clinical system redesign
  • Minimally, 5 years' experience as nurse leader for multiple clinical projects, large multi-faceted projects and/or nursing leadership.
  • Preferred experience in organizing, planning and executing projects from vision through implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors and vendors.

  • Accomplished team-oriented leader with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated achievements in leading teams.
  • Highly organized and able to lead nursing-wide projects with specific deliverables.
  • Proven strong, dynamic leadership skills, with proven abilities to manage across various levels of the organization, including matrixed divisions.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership through broad collaborative skills, deliberate decision making and effective delegation and follow up.
  • Practical knowledge of informatics and their impact and/or value to nursing practice. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practice and understanding of clinical applications and related technologies.
  • Executive presence with ability to present technical information clearly across a variety of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of current/evolving nursing/patient care delivery models and challenges, hospital operations, human resource process, healthcare finance, payment systems, patient safety, continuum of care.
  • strong planning, organization, critical thinking, decision-making and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • High degree of confidentiality, maturity, tactfulness and business ethics.
  • Working knowledge of current/evolving patient care delivery models and challenges within hospital operations, human resource processes, healthcare finance, payment systems and patient safety.
