Senior Vice President, Heart and Vascular Service Line

Job Summary:

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Heart and Vascular Service Line at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health (RWJBH) is a key & senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational management, financial oversight, and network integration & development of the Heart and Vascular Service Line. This position is pivotal in ensuring RWJBH remains at the forefront of delivering high-quality cardiovascular care, delivering exceptional outcomes for patients and driving the organization s mission forward.

Reports to:

  • The Senior Vice President of the Heart and Vascular Service reports directly to the (SVP) /Chief Clinical Officer and Executive Vice President

Qualifications:

  • Master s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in cardiovascular services or medical practice management.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, financial management, and operational effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.

Essential Functions:

Strategy:

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the Heart and Vascular Service Line.
  • Align the Heart and Vascular Service Line s strategic initiatives with the broader goals of RWJBH, ensuring consistency in mission and vision across departments.
  • Partner with other service lines and departments on joint initiatives, such as quality improvement projects, cost-containment, education & research endeavors, and community outreach programs.
  • Explore and implement innovative care models and services to meet the evolving needs of patients and the community.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive threats.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote the Heart and Vascular Service Line and attract new patients.
  • Monitor and analyze local and national trends in cardiovascular care to inform strategic planning.

Operations:

  • Oversee the operations of the Heart and Vascular Service Line.
  • Directly manage two Regional Vice Presidents for Operations.
  • Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness across all facilities within the service line.
  • Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational performance with a focus on continuous improvement.

Financial and Budgeting:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the Heart and Vascular Service Line.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to achieve financial targets.
  • Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources while maintaining high standards of care.
  • In collaboration with the Finance Office, prepare financial reports and present them to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement efficiency measures without compromising patient care.

Network Development & Integration:

  • Lead efforts to expand and integrate the Heart and Vascular Service Line within the RWJBH network.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including physicians, system- leaders, hospital administrators, and community partners.
  • Identify and eliminate barriers to access and care coordination across the network.
  • Enhance referral opportunities and optimize the cardiovascular market share.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow the Heart and Vascular Service Line.
  • Develop partnerships with external organizations, including other healthcare providers, insurers, and industry partners.

Education and Training:

  • Collaborate with the Education and Training Department to develop and implement training programs for staff, ensuring they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills in cardiovascular care.
  • Partner with our leaders in Research in the RWJBarnabas system & Rutgers Medical School, to support clinical trials and innovative research projects that advance cardiovascular medicine.

Community Engagement:

  • Develop and implement community outreach programs to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and services offered by RWJBH.
  • Partner with local organizations, schools, and community groups to promote heart health education and preventive care.
  • Organize and participate in community events, health fairs, and screenings to engage with the public and provide valuable health information.
  • Foster a strong presence in the community to build trust and enhance the reputation of the Heart and Vascular Service Line.

Promotion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • Champion initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Heart and Vascular Service Line.
  • Ensure equitable access to cardiovascular care for all patients, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive workplace culture that values and respects the contributions of all team members.
  • Support training and program development to enhance cultural competency and address implicit biases within the service line.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the SVP & Chief Clinical Officer and Executive Vice President to align service line initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on cardiovascular care trends and issues.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, and innovation within the service line.
  • Represent the Heart and Vascular Service Line in internal and external meetings and forums.
