Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position is responsible for supervising day-to-day shift operations of the Sanitation Department. Duties include supervision of sanitation personnel, ensure proper sanitation of all equipment, plant, and grounds, and ensuring all required paperwork gets properly completed on time. Shift scheduling, timekeeping and allocation of resources are essential daily activities. Leads their respective teams in the Environmental Monitoring program, working with Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance to ensure a healthy plant environment. Supervisors must maintain a positive work environment and ensure compliance with employee safety and food safety standards.

Employee Safety

    Monitors employee safety practices. When deficiencies are observed, coaches individuals and reports them to the Supervisor or manager and completes work orders if equipment needs to be repaired.
  • Regularly reviews Safe Work Practices with Sanitation team during tailgate meetings.
  • Ensures that the team and team leaders are doing monthly Alchemy safety and GMP training. Helps conduct safety training sessions as needed or required.
  • Ensures that the team is doing their exercises before each shift, taking the opportunity to coach participation as needed.
  • Enforces the company safety policies and communicates the safety practices of employees, i.e. lock out tag out, safe lifting, safe use and handling of chemicals, maintain organized work areas.
  • Conducts incident and accident investigations, reporting to Safety Department in a timely manner

Food Safety

  • Champions the Environmental Monitoring program for shift.
  • Advises team on environmental challenges, assuring that action plans are clear, understood and properly carried out.
  • As a PCQI or designee, assures daily logs conform to the Pre-Operational Preventive Control.
  • Ensures that Sanitation Department activities align with SQF, QAI GF and Kosher requirements.
  • Conducts regular GMP audits, coaching personnel as needed.

Leadership

  • Guides and assists Sanitation leadership in their daily operations.
  • Supports the Amy's Management Operating System (MOS), participating at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 boards.
  • Seeks to resolve issues (personnel, mechanical, quality, safety, GMP, etc.) directly with team leaders, employees, and other departments. When appropriate, escalates issue to the Sanitation Manager, offering solutions on how to resolve the issue.
  • Participates in spot inspections of employees cleaning practices and also assists Sanitarians with secondary inspections.
  • Conducts random, unannounced inspections on equipment that has been cleaned.
  • Communicates with leaders of other departments to resolve issues or conflicts in a timely manner to minimize production and sanitation downtime.
  • Coaches team leaders and employees on GMP's, proper cleaning practices, and company rules.
  • Regularly meets with sanitation leadership and team.
  • Motivates, leads, and coaches employees to meet sanitation standards and department goals.
  • Addresses non-compliance issues with Sanitation leaders and sanitors on a timely basis as well as recognizes individuals or groups for continuous improvements
  • Ensures the production/packaging lines are clean to ensure an on time start up.
  • Seeks continuous learning - Attends educational classes and seminars for self- improvement / supervisory & leadership skills, technical skills, language (if needed)
  • Performs other tasks/projects as assigned by the Sanitation Manager or Plant Leadership Team

Reporting

  • Review all of the department documentation (Daily Sanitation Log Audit, Master Sanitation Program, Training, Timekeeping, Absenteeism, Performance Reviews) and takes immediate actions to make corrections if needed
  • Creates and reviews Work Instructions for the department.
  • Report Right First Time and On Time Delivery results for the MOS process.

  • Directly supervises 30-40 employees.
  • Interview and hire employees

  • Employee discipline as needed after review.


Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four years experience in a food manufacturing sanitation environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of managers, supervisors or employees of company.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient using email: Outlook or Gmail.
  • Experienced using Microsoft Excel and Word or Google Sheets and Docs.
  • Experience using a computerized timekeeping system.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
