Daikin Applied is seeking a Product Engineer. The Product Engineer will assist in water-cooled, centrifugal-chiller product development, validation, and launch. Alongside the above deliverable, will be a focus in technology integration into existing and future platforms. Location: Staunton, VA - Hybrid

What you will do:



  • Technical System Development of HVAC equipment using engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and mechanical analysis
  • Design, simulate, and optimize selected HVAC equipment using available computer software
  • Be an integral part of a fast-paced stage gate development process and reporting on progress to upper management
  • Collaborate with product management to translate requirements into product
  • Explore Heat Pump systems leveraging available technologies
  • Lead and support the design, integration, and validation of the following subsystems:


    • Single & multi-stage, centrifugal compressors
    • Refrigeration system piping
    • Tube and shell HX (evaporator/condenser applications)
    • Economized, multistage compression systems


  • Assist in the integration and validation of the following subsystems:


    • 1 & 2 phase cooled VFDs
    • Chiller controls hardware and software


  • Give technical input to create concepts and develop system prototypes


    • Collaborate closely with CAD designers to model architecture of new products
    • Collaborate with advanced simulation teams to perform FEA and CFD analysis of design
    • Coordinate with manufacturing and supply chain personnel to ensure manufacturability of product


  • Provide Manufacturing support for Concept and Prototype unit builds
  • Oversight of laboratory testing; including creation of test plans, direction during testing and analysis of data collected during testing
  • Initiate and obtain agency and regulatory approval status for new products (UL, ETL, CRN, ASME, CE, etc)
  • Make technical and product decisions throughout the development process
  • Produce technical documentation to support the Marketing launch of new products and product options
  • Provide infant support for newly released products; including:


    • Review of training program documentation
    • Supporting Application Engineering and Sales


  • Assist in various Cost Improvement Goals, proposing innovative ideas and initiating cost reduction and product improvement efforts to increase the overall value of the product
  • Provide a clean, detailed, and strong transfer of newly released product to sustaining engineering team, to support product for years to come
  • Mentor less experienced Engineering staff

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience (HVAC, Industrial Process, or similar)
  • Detailed knowledge of engineering, preferably in the HVAC industry
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Basic skills with CAD applications

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $60,200 - $94,800 in Virginia. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
