Duration: Looking for students open to working full time for multiple rotations (Spring: January - June 2025, Summer: June - August 2025 or Fall: August - December 2025)

Preference will be given to students available to work full time during two to three of the timeframes listed above.

We are currently prioritizing recruitment for Spring 2025 Co-Ops. However, we do have Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 openings as well. Please refer to the correct job posting based on your availability to complete a Co-Op or Internship.

Packaging Systems Engineering Intern/Co-Op

The goal of these engineering internship/co-op positions are to provide opportunities for students to gain real world engineering experience in the Consumer-Packaged Goods and Food processing industry and to help students develop professionally in a progressive manner with an increasing amount of responsibility.

Packaging Engineering position:

This engineering group is responsible for development & execution of medium to large capital projects at all of Hershey's North American manufacturing facilities. This includes:



  • Developing design concepts, capital estimates & functional specifications for potential capital projects.
  • Specification, purchase, installation & commissioning of packaging equipment & systems
  • On-site construction, Project coordination & Project Management



Responsibilities:

Typical Student assignments & responsibilities may include:

- Specifying, purchasing, installing, and commissioning new packaging equipment.

- Preparing proper documentation of project scope of work, design documentation, and test reports.

- Working with multidisciplinary teams including personnel from manufacturing, packaging development, quality assurance, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, and process engineering, equipment manufacturers, and installation contractors.

- Designing, troubleshooting and optimizing packaging processes

- Intellectually curious and ability to deal with ambiguity and to learn on the fly

- Strong problem solving, business thinking and excellent interpersonal skills

-Ability to apply understanding of sciences (mechanical, electric, automation) engineering

- Action oriented with good planning and prioritization skills

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work both independently and in multidisciplinary groups/teams with a high level of motivation

- Good organizational along with creativity, flexibility, and initiative

- A desire to work hands-on in the manufacturing environments with equipment & products.

- Proficiency with common Windows based computer software programs, including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project (is a plus).

- Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD

Requirements

- Eligibility to work in the United States for any employer

- A valid Drivers' License and a means of reliable transportation

- Willingness and ability to travel to and work in our North American manufacturing facilities or other assignments as required, up to 50% of the time

- Availability to work on a flexible schedule from time to time including off-shifts and weekends

Education:

Must be an undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical, Electrical or Automation Engineering, or similar program from an ABET accredited engineering program at the sophomore level or higher. Knowledge in packaging engineering is a plus.
