Job Family Group: FacultyTime Type: Full timeDepartment/Office: Chemistry (Corina Maeder)Exemption Status: United States of America (Exempt)Job Description: The Department of Chemistry at Trinity University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry position beginning as soon as January 2025 and continuing to May 2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. Responsibilities will include teaching general chemistry lecture as well as general chemistry and/or organic chemistry laboratory. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong potential for supportive and effective teaching and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging in the classroom, laboratory, and university community.BACKGROUND Trinity University (http://www.trinity.edu) is a secular, independent, private institution, founded in 1869. The Chemistry Department offers ACS-certified degrees in chemistry and biochemistry and jointly administers the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology degree with the Biology Department. In addition to rigorous coursework administered by a highly supportive and student-focused faculty, the department has engaged students in high-quality undergraduate research for over 60 years. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate would teach a total of 21 contact hours per year (the equivalent of 7 courses during the 2025-26 Academic Year) to support the curricular needs of the department and the Pathways general education curriculum. Lecture courses and lab courses each count as a full course. Attendance at weekly department meetings is also expected. APPOINTMENT DETAILS This position will be a 5-month appointment starting January 2025, followed by a 9-month appointment (9 or 12 month disbursement) starting August 2025. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION Required: PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related field. EXPERIENCE Preferred: Some teaching experience preferred, but not required. ATTENDANCE The ability to teach class in person and provide in-person student office hours is required.
