As a Drilling and Blasting Foreman, you will be working with an amazing team on our Bagdad project site. This role will report to the Drilling and Blasting Manager and will perform the duties listed below."

This position will be responsible for organizing and leading blasting crews, consisting of drillers and laborers to accomplish surface blasting of access roads, drainage channels, site work areas, and roadway widening excavations. This position coordinates and monitors the daily production including the supervision and organization of all crew members and equipment. Ensures all tasks on the project are completed to contract specifications and per the project safety plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspecting the drilling units and ensuring compliance with all safety/regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to all manufacturer-provided safety operational procedures and industry safety standards
  • Rig loads and signal equipment operators, flagging traffic
  • Focus on daily and weekly goals for the project with a high level of attention to detail
  • Complete assigned work activities in compliance with applicable OSHA, MSHA, ATF, and Ames safety requirements
  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings
  • Report all incidents, injuries, and near misses to crew members and safety personnel
  • Operate various construction instruments to achieve proper layout and elevation
  • Read, interpret, and follow plans, specifications, and other contract-related documents
  • Perform all recordkeeping requirements and submit to appropriate company personnel
  • Attend meetings with drill/rig crews to communicate daily objectives, special instructions, safety precautions, and training activities as required
  • All other duties as assigned by Ames management

Position Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience containing 2 successfully completed projects in surface rock blasting and controlled blasting.
  • Current Blasting License in any state and able and willing to obtain the license(s) for surrounding states as needed.
  • Technical Knowledge of products used in construction blasting
  • Must have experience with electronic initiation systems
  • Has a thorough knowledge and experience of blasting techniques: blast design and hole layout (designing shot patterns), loading holes, and grade/elevation reading.
  • Experience working on uneven terrain with drills and proficiency in understanding and overseeing drilling equipment and operations.
  • Computer skills are required in Microsoft Excel, HCSS, and Bluebeam for timesheet entry, daily cost, and completed work reports.

  • Ability to pass the ATF background check
  • Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process
  • Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and co-workers
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment
  • Ability to learn and gain knowledge
  • Ability to follow work orders or receive instructions
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work as part of a crew and to follow work orders or receive instructions
  • Ability to focus on daily and weekly goals for the project
  • Ability to work in compliance with applicable OSHA, MSHA, ATF, and Company safety requirements

Working Conditions

  • Locations - This position is located in Bagdad, AZ with the potential of other locations throughout the Southwest Region or other Ames Regions.

    • The work environment and physical demands characteristics are representative of those you encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
    • Your position may involve exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Physically able to work in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • While performing the responsibilities of this job, you are required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, lift, and grab; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; see andhear. You will be exposed to high noise levels. You will also experience outside weather conditions.
