Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Corporate Accountant, Cash & Bank Reconciliation will own the end-to-end reconciliation process for 60+ corporate bank accounts and the A/P and A/R sub-ledgers each month, while building broader corporate accounting experience across the month-end close. This position operates on a hybrid work schedule based out of our headquarters in Chantilly, VA. The role is critical to maintaining financial integrity, optimizing cash visibility, and supporting a swift, accurate close using our core enterprise platform, Microsoft Dynamics.

Responsibilities

Cash & Bank

  • Reconciliation Ownership: Own and complete accurate monthly, weekly, and daily reconciliations for 60+ bank accounts across multiple business entities, determining the appropriate treatment of reconciling items.

  • System Integration: Use Microsoft Dynamics to pull general ledger data, review automated bank feed matches, and analyze transactional discrepancies.

  • Transaction Analysis: Analyze and match high-volume transactions, including ACH transactions, wire transfers, credit card merchant processing, and checks, and determine how exceptions should be resolved.

  • Cash Reporting: Prepare daily cash position reports, review intercompany cash movements and bank transfers, and identify and escalate unusual activity, duplicate payments, and stale-dated checks.

A/P and A/R

  • Sub-Ledger Reconciliations: Reconcile the A/P and A/R sub-ledgers to the general ledger control accounts each month, reviewing aging reports, unapplied payments and credits, and open-item detail.

  • Cash Application Review: Review A/R cash receipts and A/P disbursements against bank activity, and determine the correct resolution of unapplied, misapplied, or unmatched items.

  • Resolution: Work with the A/P and A/R teams to research and resolve reconciling items, and escalate aged or unusual balances to the Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller.

Across All Reconciliations

  • Discrepancy Resolution: Independently investigate and resolve variances between source records and the general ledger (GL), collaborating closely with internal teams. Perform root-cause analysis on recurring discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

  • Month-End Support: Prepare journal entries, roll-forward schedules, and reconciliation reports within the ERP system to support the Corporate Controller during the close cycle.

Development Track: Corporate Accounting (approx. 30-40%)

  • Build working knowledge of the full month-end close through rotating responsibility across corporate accounting areas, such as accruals and adjusting entries, intercompany accounting, prepaids, fixed assets, and flux analysis.

  • Develop a working understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) cost principles, including allowable and unallowable costs and how they affect indirect cost rates.

  • Take ownership of one or two additional account areas within 6-12 months, as agreed with the Corporate Controller.

  • Partner with the Accounting and Financial Accounting & Analysis teams to understand how transactions flow from source systems to the GL and financial statements.

Audit Readiness & Process Improvement

  • FAR Audit & DOT ICQ Support: Assist with Internal Control Questionnaires (ICQs) for various state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) as part of FAR audits, including gathering supporting documentation and tracking requests, due dates, and status by agency.

  • Audit Readiness: Maintain clean, well-organized digital documentation and workpapers to ensure compliance with internal controls and external audit requirements.

  • Process Optimization: Evaluate reconciliation workflows and recommend automation opportunities within Microsoft Dynamics, such as auto-matching rules and workflow improvements, to the Corporate Controller.

  • Documentation: Develop and maintain reconciliation procedures so the process is repeatable and supports cross-training.

  • Other duties as assigned.
