Description

Are you interested in applying artificial intelligence, data science, and software engineering techniques to challenging problems in national and health security?

If so, consider joining the Decision Systems Group. Our team develops advanced analytic methods and integrated software systems that improve situational awareness and support complex operational decision-making. Our work spans explainable and interpretable AI, surveillance systems, data fusion, large-scale and assured analytics, and human-machine decision support.

On our team you will..

  • Develop and prototype AI/ML algorithms and software systems addressing national and health security challenges.
  • Explore methods for making AI-enabled systems more explainable, interpretable, transparent, and trustworthy to users and decision-makers.
  • Develop analytics for surveillance and situational-awareness applications, including detection, characterization, data fusion, and decision support.
  • Build and operationalize analytic pipelines that transform large, heterogeneous data sets into actionable information.
  • Work as part of interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and analysts to design experiments, evaluate algorithms, and transition research concepts into operational capabilities.

Qualifications

You will meet our minimum qualifications if you..

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have experience developing software or conducting analysis using one or more programming languages, e.g., Python, R, Java, C, or C++.
  • Are self-motivated and intellectually curious, with an interest in solving open-ended technical problems and learning new methods and technologies.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary technical team.
  • To access APL's facilities and networks, US Citizenship status is required, subject to applicable laws.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
