The Product Owner will work on the Privacy Readiness project to implement and run an enterprise program including a new technology platform, OneTrust, and business processes to support compliance with current and anticipated data privacy laws that we are subject to in New York State. These laws, e.g. GDPR and CCPA, provide customers the rights to transparency about how companies manage and use personal information they collect.

This role will be accountable for product and feature development and prioritization for one of the major products: DSAR (data subject access requests) or Consent and Preference Management, as well as related workstreams and coordinating with other product owners, system and project specialists, and vendors to deliver on project goals and objectives.



  • Lead internal business and cross-functional teams as required, engage vendors and company stakeholders, and monitor and control all project activity throughout the project life cycle.
  • Establish work plans, administer meetings, assign and track tasks, develop status reports, and monitor budget and financials.
  • Create and maintain project documentation as required such as business requirements, stakeholder list, and risk register, and develop and implement associated plans.
  • Develop messaging and communication strategy and materials to proactively engage stakeholders, build awareness, solicit input, and gain alignment to positively influence project outcomes.
  • Conduct research and perform benchmarking with utilities and other businesses and organizations like the IAPP to stay informed of new legislation, trends, and best practices.
  • Perform testing associated with changes to business processes and systems, including development of detailed test plans and test cases, execution of testing, documentation of findings, and working with business and technical staff to resolve identified issues.
  • Support a customer-centric culture, taking special interest in meeting the needs of external and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.


And the experience required (except where indicated to be preferred):



  • Strong project management skills with experience as a product owner or similar role on a technology implementation project.
  • Ability to work independently as well as drive results by collaborating with stakeholders to build consensus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be well organized, detail oriented, and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills and strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively (written and oral) with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and creating documentation that can be consumed by users of diverse background and skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills with experience in business process improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


Preferred - Experience in a privacy, data privacy, or data governance-related role in operations, risk management and/or compliance, designing and/or implementing privacy program elements.

Preferred - Experience in organizational change management or customer experience management.

Preferred - Supervisory/management experience with employees, vendors, and contractors.

Preferred - Certifications in project mgmt.: PMP, Agile, Scrum; and/or certification as a privacy professional: CIPP-US, CIPM, CIPT; and/or certification in OneTrust
