Currently recruiting a Nurse Practitioner, Family Health to provide family health services at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, DC. Monday through Friday, 7: 30 a.M. To 4: 30 p.M., with a one-hour lunch, excluding federal holidays. This role supports mission-driven health care for eligible military and federal healthcare beneficiaries.
DUTIES OF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER, FAMILY HEALTH:
- Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer (e.G., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems;provide immunizations;diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
- Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician.
- Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.
- Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
- Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
- Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and TherapeuticsCommittee.
- Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positivehealth behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
- Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimaloutcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all establishedpolicies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides carewithin ethical and legal boundaries.
- Assesses patients.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for thepurpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education tobenefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communicationformat in addressing professional issues.
- Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both writtenand electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
- Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergenciessituations.
- Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW)unit guidelines.
- Participate in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
- Manages a full spectrum of medical readiness activities, including pre/post-deployment assessments, separation history and physical exams, periodic health assessments, medical evaluation board summaries (e.G. NARSUMs/ARILOs/AMRO input), occupational health exams, medical profiles for duty-limiting conditions, and medical clearances. Ensures all data is updated in required systems (e.G., ASIMs and electronic medical records).
- Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with decision- making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives designed to enhance health services.
- Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE NURSE PRACTITIONER, FAMILY HEALTH:
- Degree: Master's degree in nursing
- Education: Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field ofstudy that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certified in the specialty required by the TO as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate (for example, National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Specialties).
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
- Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient's condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
- Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic words processing data entry and automated medical records.
- Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment
- Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to U.S. Government networks.
- Must provide documentation of applicable occupational-health testing or physical examination, required immunizations and annual vaccinations, and tuberculosis screening.
- Must use N95 respiratory protection when required for patient care and complete respirator fit testing and training within 30 days after in-processing and annually thereafter.
- Must complete applicable government security inquiry, qualifying or credentialing documentation, staff orientation, HIPAA training, MHS GENESIS training, and other required agency training.
