At AES, we are looking for a Performance & Reliability Intern for Summer 2027

Role Description:

As a Performance & Reliability Intern, you will work directly with engineers and analysts who help drive reliability decisions. You will gain hands-on experience analyzing outage data, reliability metrics, and asset health information toidentifytrends, improve performance, and support critical business.

This internship provides exposure to real utility operations, where data-driven insights influence investment decisions, equipment replacement strategies, and reliability improvement initiatives. You will contribute to dashboards, analytics, and reporting tools used by leadership, while developing practical skills in Excel, Power BI, and utility performance analysis.

The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn andimprovesreliabilitythrough the use ofdata.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze outage data toidentifypatterns, recurring issues, underperforming circuits, and potential causes.

  • Assistwith the preparation, validation, and reconciliation of reliability metrics, including SAIDI, SAIFI, and CAIDI.

  • Support asset health analyses by combining equipment condition, age, andfailureinformation to help prioritize transformers, breakers, circuits, and other utility assets.

  • Build andmaintaindashboards, reports, and visualizationsin PowerBI.

  • Clean, organize, andvalidatedata from multiple utility systems and sources.

  • Participate in working sessions and performance reviews with engineers.

  • Document data sources, assumptions, calculations, and analytical methodologies.

  • Support special projects related to reliability improvement, outage root cause analysis, asset performance, and infrastructure planning.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, data analytics, computer science, or a related field.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and an interest in developing data analysis and visualization skills.

  • Interest in Power BI, SQL, Python, or similar analytical tools is preferred but notrequired.

  • Strong attention to detail and an interest in data quality, validation, and reconciliation.

  • Ability to organize work, follow through on assignments, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

  • Curiosity about the energy industry, utility operations, reliability, and asset management.

  • No prior utility experience isrequired.
