Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are currently seeking Part-Time Cook to work in our Anchor Point Crisis Residence Program.



Position Summary:

The Cook prepares and serves meals, and maintains kitchen and storage areas, all in accordance with the policies and standards of the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health, the State Education Child Nutrition Program, and the Agency.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  1. Prepare, produce, heat, cook, bake and serve a variety of foods including soups, entrees, meats, vegetables, desserts, breads, salads, sandwiches, beverages, or other foods and beverages as specified by the menus, recipes, and production records.



  1. Read Department emails and documents relevant information/requests into the cook's log.
  2. Communicate in a professional manner with all agency houses to collect meal counts, trip information, birthday data and general information needed to maintain meal production stasis.
  3. Sets up and merchandises food and food service areas and serves food.
  4. Operate kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to, electric mixers, slicers, grinders, ovens, stove tops, tilt-skillets, tilt kettles, warmers, and coolers. Utilize kitchenware such as, but not limited to, knives, spatulas, whisks, tongs, spoons, and ladles.



  1. Oversee and provide guidance to the Children's Homes' residents and work study employees.
  2. Practice safe food handling according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health, State Education Child Nutrition Program and Agency policies and standards.



  1. Assist in the monitoring, reduction, and management of food waste.
  2. Clean and sanitize pots, pans, and kitchen utensils, sweeping, mopping, and general cleaning. Maintain seasonal equipment.
  3. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of the facility, service areas, and all kitchen equipment such as counters, tables, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, mixers, transient hot carts, mobile carts, and rolling racks.



  1. Dispose of waste according to the Food Services Operating Procedures, and OSHA.



Schedule: Monday-Wednesday 3:30pm-6:30pm, Saturday-Sunday 12:00pm-6:00pm, Thursday-Friday OFF.

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid NYS Driver License in good condition as determined by the Agency
  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical, PPD and drug screen and an annual physical and PPD.



PREFERRED Qualifications:



  • Formal education or certificates related to food preparation.
  • Baking skills
  • Quantity food experience
  • Serve Safe certificate
