Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

Sealed Air is seeking an Embedded Linux Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and maintain software for industrial and embedded equipment control systems. The position will be based out of our Streetsboro OH facility. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing embedded Linux platforms using the Yocto Project, along with strong DevOps practices and automated testing experience.


This role will work closely with hardware, controls, electrical, and software engineers to deliver reliable, maintainable, and production-ready systems. The ability to handle multiple projects, work independently and interact with team leaders & peers will be critical.


Position Scope includes new equipment development projects, support of legacy equipment, design and support of production test equipment, troubleshooting, problem solving, and cross functional team support.



RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems for industrial control equipment, including GUI & HMI development.
* Build, customize, and maintain Linux distributions using the Yocto Project and BitBake.
* Create and maintain board support packages, recipes, layers, images, and configuration files.
* Configure and integrate device drivers, system services, boot processes, networking, and hardware interfaces.
* Support Linux kernel configuration, customization, troubleshooting, and version upgrades.
* Develop software scripts and tools to improve system integration, deployment, and diagnostics.
* Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software and Linux image builds.
* Diagnose issues across hardware, bootloader, kernel, operating system, and application layers.
* Document build processes, system architecture, test procedures, release methods, and troubleshooting guidelines.
* Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define system requirements and technical solutions.
* Maintain revision control on all documentation, drawings & Programs via engineering change notices (ECN), and doc. control systems.
* Troubleshooting & field support with root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
* 7-10 years of relevant Software engineering / controls experience.


* Minimum 7 years of experience with computer / electrical engineering.
* Professional experience developing embedded Linux systems.
* Hands-on experience with Yocto Project, BitBake, and Linux image creation.
* Strong programming experience in C/C++ and scripting experience with Python and/or Shell.
* Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.
* Experience developing automated tests and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
* Familiarity with Linux system administration, networking, debugging, and performance analysis.
* Experience working with embedded hardware, cross-compilation, and hardware/software integration.
* Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
* Ability to travel if required.
* Comfortable working with & providing guidance to peers

Pay Transparency:

Base Compensation Range: $102,600 - $176,755



The range disclosed complies with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Offers within this range will be determined by considering relevant factors including education, experience, and internal alignment. This position may also be eligible for annual performance bonuses and other incentive programs. Sealed Air offers a competitive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and other benefits designed to promote well-being.
