About the Position Join Gulfstream's Flight Dynamics and Control Law team for a Summer 2027 associate internship. The Control Law group develops and validates the flight control laws that govern aircraft handling qualities, stability augmentation, autopilot functions, envelope protection systems, and fly-by-wire aircraft operation. Interns will work alongside experienced flight controls engineers supporting the development, analysis, and testing of advanced aircraft control systems. Assignments may include mathematical modeling, simulation development, control law analysis, data analysis, flight test support activities, and verification of flight control system requirements. Projects may involve the use of engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and aircraft simulation environments to evaluate aircraft performance and handling characteristics. Interns will gain exposure to the complete flight controls development process from concept development through laboratory testing and flight test validation. Typical Major(s) Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering Desired Skills MATLAB and Simulink modeling Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar technical languages Understanding of dynamic systems and feedback control principles Experience analyzing engineering data and presenting technical results Familiarity with linear systems, transfer functions, and control system design concepts Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment Hobbies / Interests Pilot certificate or flight training experience RC aircraft, drones, robotics, or autonomous systems Aircraft design teams, Formula SAE, AIAA Design Build Fly, or similar engineering competitions Embedded systems, microcontrollers, and hardware/software integration projects Preferred List of Classes Taken/Planned Highly Preferred Aircraft Flight Dynamics Flight Controls Aerodynamics Classical Control Systems Dynamic Systems Additional Beneficial Coursework State-Space Control Systems Linear Systems System Identification Numerical Methods Engineering Programming Signals and Systems Additional Qualifications Students that have completed class projects, research, or extracurricular activities involving aircraft simulation, autonomous vehicles, robotics, control system design, guidance and navigation, or dynamic system modeling are especially encouraged to apply. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (unrounded); must be listed on resume. Minimum duration: 10-12 weeks (summer); 10-16 weeks (spring and fall). Must work onsite; this is not a remote position.
