Inside the Role

Position requires the employee to read and interpret discrepancy and parts shortage reports and provide mechanical and electrical repairs to units prior to leaving assigned line.

A high school diploma/GED is required.

An associate's degree in automotive mechanics/technology or mechatronics is a plus.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Have three to five years' proven service and repair experience.

Electrical experience required.
**This HELPER position is the interim step to MECHANIC classification. Classification of "HELPER" is for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 1 year. During the helper period the helper must display the execution of the above skills. During the HELPER period the pay grade will be grade 4A.

Mechanic Helper position offers a starting salary of $25.75/hr. up to top pay of $39.25/hr. *Additional $2.00 shift differential for off-shifts.

  • Interface with line personnel to analyze problems encountered during production. Methodically troubleshoot and identify problems with vehicle electronics, wiring, cooling, compressed air, and fluid systems.
  • Perform assembly and make repairs to the chassis.
  • Assemble and operate fixtures that test components.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make fast paced decisions.
  • Must have background in automotive air conditioning, electrical systems, diesel and gasoline engine fuel systems, as well as diesel engine alarm/shutdown systems and automotive cooling systems.
  • Must be able to perform front, rear and tag axle alignments.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Must be able to work significant amounts of overtime as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
