Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Quotation Engineer provides technical and administrative support in the processing of customer quotation requests for standard and special cutting tool products. This position develops, communicates, and tracks quotations while serving as the primary connection between customers, sales, production, and engineering throughout the quotation process. By following established engineering standards, quotation guidelines, and manufacturing processes, the Quotation Engineer develops the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary for advancement within Guhring's engineering career path. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Develop and process price quotations for standard and special cutting tool products by following established quotation procedures, engineering standards, and turnaround expectations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers by phone, email, and web inquiries, providing pricing, delivery, product information, and technical support for standard and special tooling requests.
- Coordinate with sales, engineering, production, and manufacturing teams to determine product feasibility, manufacturing methods, costs, and delivery requirements necessary to prepare accurate quotations.
- Work within SAP and related engineering systems to create, process, maintain, and track quotations while adapting to evolving software platforms and business processes.
- Assist in maintaining engineering systems through additions and corrections to routings, job data, and product information to support changing manufacturing methods and engineering requirements.
- Maintain accurate quotation records, customer documentation, correspondence, and order confirmations while ensuring timely communication throughout the quotation process.
- Develop an understanding of cutting tool design, manufacturing processes, engineering standards, materials, and production methods through on-the-job training and cross-functional collaboration.
- Support Engineering team with repeat orders, engineering documentation, and other technical assignments as knowledge and experience develop.
- Recommend process improvements that increase quotation accuracy, consistency, and turnaround time.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer information, pricing, engineering designs, and proprietary manufacturing processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. No prior tooling, manufacturing, or quotation experience is necessary, as Guhring provides comprehensive on-the-job training. An associate degree or coursework in manufacturing technology, engineering, machining, industrial technology, or a related technical field is preferred but not required. Previous experience in manufacturing, customer service, technical support, or an engineering environment is beneficial. SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Strong motivation to learn manufacturing processes, cutting tool applications, engineering standards, and quotation practices through structured on-the-job training.
- Ability to read and interpret customer orders, technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering documentation, or demonstrate the aptitude to quickly develop these skills.
- Basic mathematical aptitude, including geometry and trigonometry, with the ability to apply practical problem-solving techniques to quotation and manufacturing applications.
- Comfortable learning and utilizing SAP, engineering systems, Microsoft Office, and other software applications as business processes evolve.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to professionally interact with customers, sales personnel, manufacturing, and engineering teams.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and meeting established deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with an interest in developing broader engineering knowledge and technical responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, machining, customer service, or technical support is preferred but not required.
