JOB SUMMARY: BioCryst is a fast-growing pharmaceutical company seeking an experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to support and manage the company's Microsoft cloud services, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Entra ID, and related security and compliance technologies. The role will also provide operational support for on-premises infrastructure at the Durham location, including networking, wireless, switching, internet connectivity, and data center technologies. The successful candidate will ensure enterprise systems remain secure, reliable, compliant, and aligned with the company's technology strategy. Please note, this role is NOT remote and you will be required to work in the office 5 days a week. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, administer, support, and optimize Microsoft enterprise cloud platforms and services, including Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Teams, Purview, and Entra ID. Provide operational support and lead the evaluation, testing, and rollout of new features and service enhancements while ensuring platform availability, performance, reliability, and user adoption.
- Serve as the technical owner for Microsoft enterprise cloud platforms and services, establishing standards, evaluating new capabilities, and ensuring solutions align with business, operational, security, and compliance requirements.
- Architect and deliver solutions that address business and operational needs, serving as the technical lead for the successful implementation of technology initiatives and process improvements while managing multiple priorities and projects.
- Administer and support on-premises infrastructure at the Durham location, including networking, wireless, switching, internet connectivity, firewalls, and related infrastructure systems. Participate in after-hours maintenance and support activities as required.
- Provide onsite infrastructure support five days per week within the Durham office location.
- Partner with the company's managed service providers (MSPs) to monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot cloud and infrastructure services, ensuring performance, availability, and reliability while supporting server, backup, and disaster recovery platforms as needed.
- Partner with Information Security, Compliance, and IT teams to implement, maintain, and optimize Microsoft cloud identity, access, security, governance, and compliance controls while supporting cybersecurity initiatives and remediation efforts.
- Coordinate with Microsoft, service providers, and third-party vendors to troubleshoot issues, evaluate solutions, and ensure service performance and support expectations are met.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, procedures, diagrams, and knowledge articles, and communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support onsite company meetings, events, conferences, and business activities within the Durham office, ensuring a reliable and seamless technology experience for employees, guests, and presenters.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise Microsoft cloud platforms, infrastructure, and networking environments, preferably within a regulated industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft enterprise cloud platforms and services, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Purview, and Entra ID.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft cloud identity, security, governance, compliance, and access management technologies, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Microsoft Purview, retention, information protection, and lifecycle management solutions.
- Experience evaluating, testing, deploying, and integrating Microsoft cloud capabilities and service enhancements within a cloud-first enterprise environment.
- Working knowledge of Cisco Meraki, enterprise networking, wireless technologies, firewalls, routing, VPNs, and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of server, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, and infrastructure operations.
- Experience working with managed service providers (MSPs), Microsoft support, and third-party technology vendors.
- Proven ability to serve as a technical lead, driving infrastructure and cloud initiatives from design through implementation while managing multiple priorities and projects.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience supporting GxP, SOX, and other regulated environments preferred.
- Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert, or equivalent certifications strongly preferred.
