Overview

Senior Noise Specialist - Watertown, MA - Hybrid

VHB's Watertown, Massachusetts office is seeking a Senior Noise Specialist to join our growing Environmental practice. This is a role for someone ready to take ownership of technical work and begin leading it: managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a trusted technical voice with clients and the public. You will lead noise and vibration studies across a wide range of markets, from transportation and energy to private development, and help shape how our team delivers this work as the practice grows. Responsibilities:

    Lead noise and vibration studies for a wide range of clients across the transportation, energy, and private development markets
  • Supervise and review work produced by other members of the noise team, providing technical direction and mentorship.
  • Conduct modeling and analysis using tools such as Cadna-A, FHWA's Traffic Noise Model, FHWA's Roadway Construction Noise Model, FTA/FRA Noise and Vibration Guidance modeling and FAA Aviation Environmental Design Tool
  • Utilize a wide range of technical tools such as GIS, CAD, MATLAB and spreadsheet-based analysis
  • Prepare and review technical reports
  • Represent VHB at client meetings and present study findings at public meetings and outreach event
  • Support client relationship, business development and marketing activities

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong technical capabilities in noise consulting
  • Self-motivated
  • Team leadership qualities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering, acoustics, transportation, math, physics, environmental science, or related field (engineering preferred)
  • 8-11 years of professional noise consulting experience

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Professional licensure or certification such as a PE or INCE Board Certification, or progress toward one
  • Experience with energy projects such as substations, solar, and battery storage
  • Experience presenting to the public or supporting community outreach

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $100,000-140,000 The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
