Job Description
ECU Department of Disability Support Services is currently seeking several Disability Support Services Graduate Assistants.

This position supports the Disability Support Services office at East Carolina University by performing a variety of tasks. The primary role is to support the office reception area by answering the phone and routing calls as well as greeting guests who walk in for scheduled or unscheduled meetings. Additional tasks may include delivering packages or mail to DSS staff, picking up or delivering materials in support of the alternate format service, supporting the DSS Testing Centers, and performing other errands across campus. Once hired, Office Assistants will be required to complete FERPA training and uphold the DSS confidentiality standard.

Job Duties:

  • May work with common applications from Microsoft such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Act as primary backup for testing center operations, assisting in facilitating a quiet and fair testing environment for students with accommodations.
  • May be asked to assist with tasks for the accommodation request process.
  • Provide reception area coverage and customer service, this includes greeting guests and answering questions over email or the phone, taking clear and complete messages to enhance staff follow-up, and/or routing calls as needed.
  • Assist with office supplies, furniture, and technology inventory.
  • Delivering packages and mail to DSS staff or delivering and picking up materials to support the alternate format service.
  • Assist in keeping office spaces, waiting area, and testing centers clean and tidy.
  • May be asked to assist in the research of identified information or topics to support Disability Support Services staff.
  • Will be assigned other special projects or tasks in support of DSS staff.


Students selected will assist during Disability Support Services office hours, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.
GPA Requirement Minimum of 3.0
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDACY
Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree and admission (or anticipated admission) in an accredited degree-granting graduate program at East Carolina University. Additionally, all applicants should be in good conduct and behavioral standing with East Carolina University, as well as with local, state, and federal laws.
Students pursuing a degree related to Counseling, Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Rehabilitation Services, Human Resources, Higher Education, Communication, or Business are encouraged to apply. All majors will be considered.
