Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a short-term Painter. This position will perform journey-level painting and application of protective and decorative coating to interiors and exterior surfaces of buildings, furnishing, and structures

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

This is a short-term position with a projected end date of 6/30/2027, with renewal contingent on funding source.

Essential Functions

80% Performs journey-level painting and applies paint, varnish, stain, and enamel to building interiors and exteriors. Applies paint to a variety of surfaces using a brush or spray machine, erects scaffolding, prepares surfaces for painting, installs drywall, patches holes, and applies texture. Line striping of parking lots, stencil painting.
20% Maintains tools, brushes, equipment, and safe working conditions. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This classification may be assigned to lead other regular staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives general supervision on routine items, which are performed according to established standards and procedures, and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of work experience related to the described duties of this classification.

OR

An Associate's degree or certificate in painting, or a related field, from a regionally accredited institution.

OR

High School Diploma or GED and the successful completion of a recognized painter's apprenticeship program.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Two (2) or more years of experience painting interior and exterior, drywall finishing, using specialized equipment relevant to the position, and mixing and matching paint textures.

  2. Experience using a computer, including but not limited to maintenance management software such as Google Suites

  3. Experience prioritizing, organizing, and maintaining records and files.

  4. Customer service experience.

  5. Ledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations

  6. OSHA 10 and/ or 30-hour card.

  7. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.


Special Working Conditions

  • All travel-related expenses to campus during the interview and selection process will be the candidate's responsibility.

  • May be required to travel to other MCCCD locations.

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.

  • This is a short-term position with a projected end date of 06/30/2027, with renewal contingent on funding source.

  • External candidates hired into a short-term benefits-eligible position are ineligible for rehire into a non-benefits-eligible position or to continue working in a non-benefits-eligible position for a period of six months once their assignment ends

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals

  • Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas, along with working at heights.

  • Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions

  • Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily

  • May require lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs (check the weights since Nursing will lift patients?)
