The pay rate is $27.91. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week. This position is in person, located on the UMN Crookston Campus, and represented by the Teamsters Bargaining Unit.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time, 12-month position starting at $27.91 per hour working in the Department of Facilities and Operations. This position reports to the Operations Supervisor. Must be willing to work holidays and overtime when necessary. This position is represented by the Teamsters Local 320 Bargaining Unit.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for operating campus maintenance equipment on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. (These examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this work and do not limit the assignment of related responsibilities):

  • Operates various heavy hauling equipment and trailers up to 10-ton load capacity or more such as dump trucks, dump trailers, equipment hauling trailers, etc.
  • Operates front-end loaders, snow throwers, tool cats, skid steers, pick up plow trucks, sanders, street sweepers, tractors, mowers, and other specialized equipment in maintaining the campus grounds.
  • Performs inspections and minor repair and maintenance on grounds equipment. Including changing oil and filters, replacing batteries, changing equipment attachments, etc.
  • Performs routine and non-complex mechanical maintenance and repair work on building and grounds systems and related equipment.
  • Maintains "specialty use" grounds such as athletic fields, feedlot paddocks, paved and unpaved roads. This includes cultivating, spraying, fertilizing, rolling, seeding, aerating, grading, sweeping, and maintaining irrigations systems for these areas.
  • Instructs and directs assistant B&G and student workers in general grounds duties.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license class A or B with no chargeable driving offences. Minimum three years' experience consisting of the following: one year driving heavy duty trucks of 10 ton load capacity or more plus two years' experience specific to the particular assignment, such as driving / operating maintenance equipment, rope and harness experience, knowledge of pruning and tree culture, or handling chemical waste in a prescribed manner.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the assignment.
  • Ability to interact in public setting in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience operating grounds and snow removal equipment such as a tool cat, skid steer, loader, commercial mowers, tractors, etc.
  • Have a pesticide applicator license - Type A and E, or willing to obtain one.
  • Experience with maintenance of various grounds equipment to include mowers, chainsaws, UTVs, etc.
  • Experience with tree trimming
  • Experience with the installation and maintenance of irrigations systems.
