Job Description

Purpose and Scope
The University of Missouri System Human Resources dedicated HR team provides leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of human resource services and programs for faculty and staff across all campuses and the health system. Our aim is to create a positive and productive work environment with top talent serving internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, UM System HR provides centralized services including benefits, compensation and retirement.

This position identifies and processes benefit and retirement related premium adjustments for 20,000 benefit-eligible employees, employees transitioning from benefit eligible to non-benefit eligible and employees entering retirement. Additionally, this position also processes payroll for employees on paid leaves and is responsible for providing customer service regarding adjustments and payments. This position serves as the point of contact for Shared Payroll Services regarding these functions.

Responsibilities
50% Responsible for evaluating and processing benefit premium adjustments ensuring year-end data is accurate.
* Review and process benefit adjustments
o Review daily, weekly and payroll specific reports and compare to system to determine if adjustments are needed
o Perform audit/review on premiums due
o Identify, document and process overpayments and refunds
* Perform audits to identify and adjust premium deductions for employees with pay group changes
* Process employee data corrections related to premium deduction errors

25% Responsible for evaluating and processing payroll for leave plans (e.g. Caregiver Leave, Parental Leave and Short-Term Disability).
* Review and process payroll connected to leave plans
o Review daily, weekly and payroll specific reports and compare to system to determine if payments are needed
o Perform audit on paid leaves
o Identify, document and process overpayments and refunds
* Validate and reconcile monthly reporting from leave vendor

10% Analyze data to identify improvement recommendations. Knowledge of policies, research of information, data verification and identification of discrepancies and solutions is essential.
* Develop and analyze queries and spreadsheets to streamline processes and improve outcomes
* Recommends changes in policies or procedures regarding benefit premium adjustments and payroll for leave plans.

10% Provide customer service and problem-solving regarding paycheck deduction questions with emphasis on premium deductions and paycheck questions with emphasis on pay related to leave plans. Provide tier two support to routine and non-routine inquiries with ability to resolve day-to-day problems.
* Provide professional, collegial and inclusive dialogue to create effective solutions in a timely manner; May escalate complex issues to payroll and/or leave managers, payroll director or direct supervisor.
* Respond to inquiries within 48-72 hours; Maintain documentation and process tickets to ensuring accurate tracking of issue and resolutions.
* Use of good judgement, analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, proficient in excel macros, v-lookups and pivot tables and continual independent learning of payroll processes and deadlines, tax laws, benefit and retirement plans, knowledge of HIPPA, and University of Missouri policies is essential to ensure and maintain professional knowledge and provide sound credible advice.

5% Participate on process and policy work teams, contributing knowledge of PeopleSoft payroll and benefit processes. Examples include PeopleSoft upgrades, testing teams, payroll work teams, time and labor teams, etc.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging University of Missouri human resources policies and practices.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in business administration and experience demonstrating knowledge of basic tax laws, exceptional customer service and organizational skills, and proficient computer skills in Excel macros, v-lookups and pivot tables. PeopleSoft experience is helpful. Payroll or accounting experience preferred.

Demonstrated experience with providing exceptional verbal and written communication to a variety of customers, problem solving skills, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to follow through independently.

Familiarity with university systems and human resources policies or equivalent.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour

Grade: GGS 009
