have the ability to
learn to do setups on a variety of different machines.
The ideal candidate has a range of experience across different areas of the shop - bending, cutting, forming, and finishing - and, most importantly, brings an eagerness to troubleshoot and learn.
If you have experience working with clients who require tight
tolerances
and consistent quality on repeatable production runs - or
you want
that experience - this role will be a great fit.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform machine set-ups across a variety of tube and rod bending and fabrication equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and specifications to set up jobs correctly the first time
- Conduct precision quality checks throughout production runs, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to confirm parts meet dimensional and tolerance requirements
- Operate and adjust CNC and manual bending, cutting, and forming equipment to produce parts within tight tolerances
- Perform secondary operations as needed, such as deburring, cutting, drilling, or light assembly
- Train new and existing operators on machine operation, set-up standards, and quality expectations
- Troubleshoot and fix production floor engineering issues, minimizing downtime and scrap
- Identify and flag material or quality issues before they affect a production run
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with shop safety standards
- Communicate proactively with leads and supervisors on job status, issues, and timelines
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience on the shop floor of a metalworking or metal fabrication facility
- Familiarity with the equipment used in metal fabrication (tube/rod bending, cutting, forming, or related processes)
- Ability to learn and perform set-ups across a variety of different machines
- Strong blueprint and specification reading skills, including basic GD&T
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges; CMM experience a plus)
- Working knowledge of common shop materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum tube and rod)
- A demonstrated track record of troubleshooting production issues independently and collaboratively
- Experience training or mentoring other operators is a plus
- Comfort working with tight tolerances in a repeatable, high-quality production environment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and stand for extended periods on a shop floor
- Comfortable working around industrial equipment, in a shop environment with variable noise and temperature
- Willingness to wear required PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, etc.) at all times on the floor
- Forklift and/or overhead crane experience or certification a plus
- Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, unit conversions) sufficient for shop measurements and tolerances
- Reliable attendance and punctuality - production schedules depend on it
- Willingness to work overtime or additional shifts as production demands require
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the facility
