Job Summary/Primary Purpose:

The Fine Arts Coordinator is responsible for the development and execution of fine arts programming that follows established strategy and objectives. This includes promoting the mission of The Salvation Army North Corps and assuring effective day to day operations of fine arts program spaces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Execute strategies to achieve sustained utilization and excellence in programming to improve sustainability and client satisfaction.
  • Creates, implements, and coordinates fine arts programs including but not limited to pottery, drama, dance, music, open art studio, etc.
  • Actively reaches out to local youth and takes initiative in generating opportunities for them to explore the fine arts and takes a lead role in the recruitment of fine arts program participants.
  • Oversee music or arts classes/programs as scheduled or assigned. Provides substitute instruction/supervision as the need arises.


  • Interacts with parents/guardians of children, inviting the entire family to participate in Omaha North Corps programming.
  • Serves as a bridge between Omaha North Corps members and corps programs and after school program.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Omaha North Corps and the arts community groups/agencies as directed.
  • Maintains clear internal communication with staff, volunteers, and program participants including the development of memos, schedules, etc.
  • Maintains calendar of events and activities and updating program directory.
  • Prepares and files program forms, sign-in sheets, reports, and evaluations.
  • Maintains and submits daily and monthly statistical reports.
  • Maintains Fine Arts inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance and repair of equipment, stage, and components with Facilities manager.
  • Coordinates and provides oversite for volunteers and seasonal staff for Fine Arts programs.


  • Attends all required department and facility meetings and training as assigned.


  • Follows and ensures adherence to The Salvation Army and Omaha North Corps Policies and Procedures.
  • The work schedule varies and will include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • All other duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises instructors, seasonal staff, and volunteers.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. A bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Music, Education, or a related field is preferred but not required. One (1) year of experience in fine arts programming or a related field is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate specialized training or proficiency in one or more fine arts disciplines sufficient to instruct and lead programming in that area of expertise. Experience in music instruction and/or classroom or youth teaching is strongly preferred. Additional experience in staff supervision, program coordination, and facility management is highly desirable.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Good communication skills including interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish language skills helpful.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
  • Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.



Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training as established by The Salvation Army.

Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision. Excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment. This position requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The work environment is a community center with light to moderate traffic and noise levels.
