Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care within a correctional healthcare setting under the supervision of a Physician, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role supports the delivery of quality patient care while maintaining safety, security, and compliance with established healthcare and correctional facility policies. The CNA must be able to respond effectively to emergencies, adapt to changing patient care needs, and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and correctional staff in a secure environment.

Job Responsibilities




  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Physician, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.



  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and basic nursing care.



  • Observe, document, and report changes in patient condition to licensed nursing staff.



  • Respond appropriately to emergency and crisis situations.



  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation using computer systems.



  • Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, safety standards, and infection control protocols.



  • Follow Universal Precautions and other required safety practices.



  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare staff, security personnel, and other team members.



  • Demonstrate flexibility by working various shifts and assignments as required.



  • Comply with all facility security procedures, including controlled movement throughout the correctional facility.



  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of patient care.




Job Requirements




  • Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a healthcare setting is preferred.



  • Graduate of an approved Certified Nurse Aide program.



  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of New Jersey.



  • Current CPR certification.



  • Valid driver's license.



  • Strong computer literacy and basic typing skills.



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



  • Ability to work mandatory overtime when operationally required.



  • Ability to remain on duty until relief staff arrive or alternative coverage is arranged.



  • Ability to perform CPR continuously for a minimum of 10 minutes.



  • Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.



  • Ability to frequently walk, bend, stretch, push, pull, and move throughout the facility.



  • Manual dexterity sufficient for patient care and documentation.



  • Ability to work at shared computer workstations.



  • Ability to read, hear, see, and communicate effectively.



  • Ability to travel between work locations within the state as required.



  • Must successfully meet all pre-employment screening and facility approval requirements.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Must be available to work various shifts based on operational needs.



  • Mandatory overtime may be required.



  • Employees may be required to remain on duty until appropriate shift coverage is available.



  • Work is performed within a secure correctional healthcare environment.



  • Facility access and movement are controlled by Correctional Officers.



  • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.



  • Regular interaction with adult patients, including individuals who may exhibit aggressive or unpredictable behaviors.



  • May be exposed to infectious diseases and other occupational hazards.



  • Must follow all infection control, Universal Precautions, and workplace safety protocols.



  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between assigned work locations as needed.
