Position Summary

Under limited supervision, the Payroll Accountant II is an experienced role responsible for the accounting duties related to the payroll function. This role is responsible for the financial accounting, regulatory compliance and internal controls related to the payroll function.

Scope/ Supervision and Interaction: Does Note Have Direct Reports

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare journal entries to record transactions related to the payroll process as well as reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  • Maintain mappings between payroll systems and general ledgers
  • Create and generate custom reports for requested data to internal and external recipients
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards
  • Stay current with changes in accounting policies and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Develop and apply continuous improvement techniques and methods to internal processes and systems
  • Analyze data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
  • Lead and coordinate special projects
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits
  • Participate in the development and implementation of payroll policies and procedures
  • Provide training and support to junior payroll staff as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll process and relevant laws
  • Basic accounting knowledge, including understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software (e.g., UKG) is a plus
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion
