Job Description

Position Summary:

The Materials Specialist is responsible for ensuring that production schedules, deadlines, and quotas are met by managing the flow of materials, components, tooling, and documentation across departments. This role involves collaborating with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve issues, fulfill rush orders, and maintain efficient operations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Order Review: Analyze product orders and contracts to understand deadlines, production quotas, and material requirements.
  • Production Scheduling: Draft, revise, and distribute production schedules while addressing labor or material shortages and other operational challenges.
  • Cross-Department Communication: Communicate effectively with various departments to ensure timely supply of materials, components, tools, and paperwork.
  • Collaboration: Work with clients, suppliers, and delivery firms to discuss timelines, address inquiries, and coordinate shipping activities.
  • Workflow Improvement: Identify problems in workflows, recommend solutions, and implement necessary modifications to enhance efficiency across departments.
  • Defect Analysis: Investigate product defects and implement corrective action plans to resolve quality issues.
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Maintain records related to production data and performance, including inventory levels and quality control analytics.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly inventory levels, requisitioning additional supplies as needed to fulfill work orders.
  • Shipping Coordination: Coordinate production and shipping activities, resolving any issues or delays through effective collaboration with staff, vendors, and customers.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal safety regulations and policies related to materials handling.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and supply chain operations.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software or related systems.

Required Experience:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in production control, materials management, or a related field, with a solid understanding of scheduling processes and inventory control.

Level of Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
