LOCATION: Herberger Center - Phoenix, Arizona

STATUS: Full-Time/ Temporary (Seasonal)

Term: May 18 - October 30, 2026

Schedule:Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and boundaries with clients
  • Able to handle crisis/emergency services for the homeless and to utilize crisis intervention, crowd management and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to assess at risk participants and situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have valid Arizona driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Successful background clearance


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Monitor activities of heat relief participants, keeping visual and continuous interaction with clients for problem solving
  • Handle check-in and check-out procedures of heat relief clients
  • Utilize proper record keeping, screening procedures, such as; sex offender registry
  • Conduct client baggage check, remove and store weapons, tools and cell phones, return the same upon exit
  • Set up/Tear down Cooling Station equipment (Outside Signage) and stock/restock supplies used
  • Ensure compliance with program rules and expectations, maintaining a safe and manageable environment
  • Assist in distribution of resources; hygiene care kits, food boxes, snack bags, referrals, community resources and other donated goods.
  • Direct clients to the smoking area for appropriate usage and cleanliness
  • Clean area during usage, mopping spills, sanitizing all equipment, wiping tables - making sure to follow CDC guidelines to ensure safety of participants and staff
  • Transport PFS Cooling Station resources between PFS Building, PFS Kitchen and DHQ Warehouse
  • Assist with unloading products from donors and placement in warehouse
  • Assist in general logistic activities and product rotation with Metro and PFS Staff
  • Investigate and report activity and incidents appropriately, or as needed to emergency responders, such as police, fire and/or ambulance personnel, according to established guidelines
  • Provide accurate and through written communication in the (IR) Incident Report Logbook for management and Support Workers review
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor as it relates to the position of Heat Relief Worker


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
