About the Job
Position Overview: This position oversees, develops, and administers programs that support the review and recruitment of highly qualified and diverse applicants for entry into the University of Minnesota Medical School for the Twin Cities, Duluth and CentraCare St. Cloud campuses. The Director of Admissions supervises administrative support positions for the day-to-day management of the medical school's admissions program and reports to the Assistant Dean for Admissions. Goals/Objectives:
- Oversee and supervise all aspects of the medical school interview program (650+ participants) for all missions and campuses
- Responsible for implementation of recruitment programming & schedule
- Responsible for policies and procedures for scholarship review process
- Oversight for Admissions Office operations and procedures
- Supervision of three FTE positions (Interview Coordinator, Admissions & Recruitment Coordinator, & Applications Coordinator)
The position will also liaise with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Center of Multicultural Affairs and Engagement, the Director of The Center of American Indian and Minority Health, the Associate Dean for Native Health, the Associate Dean for Rural Health, and members of the Medical Student Admissions Committee to ensure school admissions policies align with the school's mission and goals. Job Duties/Responsibilities: 50%: Program Management
- Oversee the MD interview program in collaboration with other Admissions leaders. This includes logistics management, interviewer recruitment, and day-of activities.
- Develop an effective interview training program for mission interviews.
- Analyze feedback and implement appropriate improvements for recruitment and interview programming.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Managers and the Assistant Dean for Admissions to manage the applicant review process, ensuring an efficient and effective admissions process.
- Participate in admissions policies and procedures in conjunction with Assistant Dean for Admissions, such as: records retention policy, deferment policy, certification statement, scholarship consideration review process.
- Oversee the Medical Student Admissions Committee administrative process and contribute to institutional training committees
- Provide strategic and operational oversight of admissions operations, including applicant processing workflows, data integrity, system implementation, and performance monitoring to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Oversee background check review process (if applicable)
- Direct admissions data reporting and analysis for AAMC, LCME, and institutional reporting requirements.
- Ensure institutional compliance with AAMC, LCME, and University policies, standards, and reporting requirements related to admissions operations
- Participate in resource planning and operational decision-making related to admissions and recruitment programming.
20%: Recruitment
- Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide recruitment strategy aligned with institutional priorities across all Medical School campuses.
- Exercise independent judgment in directing recruitment initiatives, evaluating effectiveness, and implementing strategic improvements.
- Develop and implement local and national recruitment plans which may include travel
- Oversee relationships with the premedical advising community locally and nationally.
- Direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of admissions-related recruitment events (fairs, prospective student visits, school visits, webinars, video projects, etc.).
- Influence recruitment strategy through data, trends, and market insights.
- Collaborate with the Office of Communications to update all recruitment materials (print and web); provide revisions to information and statistics published in annual surveys (MSAR), on the website, and through other media.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, Pathways Programs, Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, and the MD/PhD program on recruitment efforts
- Serve as a contact for prospective applicants and provide advising services and information about the application process.
- Oversee the review of recruitment scholarships and distribution process.
- Oversee the development of recruitment initiatives aimed at attracting candidates from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in medicine and different socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Work with the UME to update the Admitted Student website, including updating important dates and current student profiles.
30%: Other Duties
- Oversee and ensure compliance with AAMC and LCME-related policies and regulations.
- Provide overall operational and strategic leadership for the Office of Admissions, including supervision of staff, admissions operations, recruitment strategy, and process implementation.
- Serve as a liaison to the Pre-Health Student Resource Center.
- Service on the AHC Director of Student Services and Admissions and AHC Admissions & Recruitment Functional Groups.
- Analyze admissions and recruitment data to develop and recommend operational, policy, and strategic process improvements.
- Develop and facilitate long-term admissions strategy
- Exercise independent judgment in managing admissions operations and resolving complex issues
- Serve as a primary operational decision-maker for admissions processes, implementation strategy, and issue resolution.
- Directly supervise three full-time staff positions, including performance management, work allocation, training, coaching, and operational oversight.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree plus at least eight years of experience in higher education, student affairs, admissions or related field OR Master's degree plus at least six years of experience.
- Experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socio-ethnic and cultural communication styles.
- Experience with project management, with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree plus at least 6 years of experience.
- Experience in education, student affairs, or admissions.
- Strong knowledge of health professions, student development, and academic programming.
- Working knowledge of university and college academic policies, financial aid policies, academic records, medical school entrance procedures, and available student resources.
- Thorough understanding of medical education issues as they apply to the recruitment and selection of students.

Pay and Benefits
