About the Job:
The McGovern Lab in the Neurosurgery Department is recruiting a highly motivated and organized individual for a Research Coordinator role to support our growing research portfolio. The McGovern lab studies refractory (untreatable) gait and balance problems in patients with Parkinson's disease and normal pressure hydrocephalus. There is also a strong focus on patients suffering from medication refractory epilepsy. This role will assist the research team in coordination of both current and future clinical trials in the lab. Typical days will entail coordinating study visits, seeing patients for study activities, updating study logs, making necessary study modifications, and routine processing of and rudimentary analysis of collected data.

Work Schedule: This is a hybrid position, Monday - Friday, allowing some remote work, but this individual is expected to spend the majority of their time on campus and at participating sites. Must be willing to work outside of normal office hours for late and early participant visits. Must be willing to travel for participant visits outside of the metropolitan area.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Study Management (80%):

  • Organize and maintain subject identification, recruitment, enrollment, and retention, including follow-up calls and visits
  • Perform patient evaluations, extract and report quality patient data
  • Responsible for interpretation of, application of, and compliance with Federal Regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and University and Clinical Partner policies as it relates to assigned research protocols
  • Act as an information resource to the University faculty and staff for protocol specific queries, including availability of trials, enrollment requirements, specimens needed, etc.
  • Demonstrate effective and efficient communication with study sponsors, monitors, Department and University staff
  • Maintain accurate source documents
  • Organize, prioritize, and accomplish daily tasks related to neurosurgery protocols
  • Identify and assess adverse events; responsible for subject protocol triage and symptom management; report adverse events in a timely fashion
  • Assist to maintain departmental research database and obtain and share updates of study progress
  • Track and maintain all binders and regulatory documents
  • Complete required IRB regulatory documentation, assist in managing all IRB submission and correspondence in conjunction with Research Program Manager and PI

Data Management (20%):

  • Assist in analysis of results; assist with development and submission of abstracts and publications
  • Respond to data queries for data validation and analysis as needed
  • Assist with building and refining survey instruments using advanced logic
  • Manage the export of cleaning of quantitative datasets, ensuring variables are labeled and ready for analysis in software such as R
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field OR a combination of education and related work experience to equal at least four years
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a complex, high energy environment, including excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, make decisions, problem solve and prioritize the simultaneous coordination of multiple clinical research studies
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to recruit and enroll research subjects
  • Ability to organize and manage several protocols concurrently
  • Computer proficiency and ability to navigate multiple software applications
  • Must be able to work outside of normal office hours for late and early participant visits
  • Must be able to travel for participant visits outside of the metropolitan area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or understanding of neurosurgery
  • Experience with EPIC, OnCore, REDCap, Qualtrics
  • Clinical research, clinical trials or research administration experience
  • Experience interviewing and documenting study data appropriately
  • Data management and/or data analysis experience or aptitude
  • Ability to follow strict research protocols with utmost ethical standards
  • Experience recruiting, consenting and interacting with human research subjects, proven ability to recruit/retain subjects
  • Experience with paper and computerized clinical case report forms and data collection; experience with research databases and study spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and federal regulations related to clinical research, including knowledge of adverse event reporting and informed consent process

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.25/hr - $27.40/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience
