Surface Materials Buyer

The SRM NA Buyer is a strategic buying role in support of EV transformation in the Sustainable Raw Materials Purchasing group. The Buyer will have responsibility to execute the management of the SRM commodities, work closely with cross functional departments, and collaborate with colleagues globally. The position will provide comprehensive oversight from beginning to end for all internal and external supplier partner activities as it relates to planning, strategy, sourcing, contract management, cost management, quality, and supply. Additional responsibility for developing and executing the commodity strategy, jointly with engineering & global Purchasing team. Regular reporting out to leadership.

MAIN OBJECTIVES:



  • Surface Materials commodity management (fabrics, leather, synthetic leather, suede)
  • Define, implement, and maintain the commodity strategy, including cost and technology roadmaps
  • Lead sourcing activities to meet program timing, cost, and technical objectives.
  • Develop and manage cost models, including benchmarking and value optimization
  • Drive commercial and technical cost savings
  • Manage supplier performance plans (cost, quality, delivery, capacity)
  • Ensure raw material securitization, volume, and capacity management to prevent shortages.
  • Oversee sourcing and development execution in collaboration with engineering and technical teams.
  • Establish and track sourcing timelines to support vehicle SOP milestones
  • Ensure governance and clarity for directed-buy components (cost, terms, RASIC)
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Finance, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Supplier Operations
  • Monitor and manage engineering changes and supplier performance issues impacting program timing
  • Provide clear, actionable reporting on cost status, supplier performance, risks, and constraints
  • Prepare and present commodity, supplier, and program status at key milestones
  • Support vehicle programs across the full lifecycle: sourcing, launch readiness, and post-launch



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, or closely related field from an ABET accredited university
  • Strong analytical skills, effective communication skills and are highly customer focused
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Strong fluency with G Suite / MS Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 2+ years of purchasing or closely related relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Surface Materials is a plus
