TGen is seeking a proactive, mid-level Atlassian Administrator who combines strong technical administration skills with a passion for collaboratively improving IT operations through standardized and efficient use of the Atlassian Cloud suite (Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Assets, and Confluence) in our mission-driven, non-profit research environment.
This role focuses on hands-on administration, configuration, and optimization of Atlassian tools while supporting process improvements and best-practice adoption across IT teams. You will help drive and facilitate consistent and scalable use of Jira, JSM, Assets, and Confluence, while collaborating with other IT staff members to support growing needs of the various teams and senior leadership.
You will serve as the key internal resource for Atlassian tools by: collaborating with other major Atlassian stakeholders in IT to understand existing use cases and requirements; defining and proposing smooth transitions to best practices; and helping teams get the most value from the platform.
Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of current Jira, JSM, Assets, and Confluence setups and provide actionable recommendations aligned with best practices.
  • Design, implement, and maintain configurations including workflows, custom fields, permission schemes, filters, dashboards, boards, and Confluence space structures.
  • Build and maintain integrations between Atlassian tools and other platforms such as Netbox, LucidChart, Okta, Gitlab, Crowdstrike, and others.
  • Support standardization of Atlassian usage across teams while maintaining flexibility and usability for diverse IT groups.
  • Gather requirements from stakeholders, evaluate use cases, and implement scalable solutions rather than one-off customizations.
  • Troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and handle day-to-day maintenance of the Atlassian environment.
  • Collaborate with the IT Support & Operations manager to understand existing designs and detailed implementations of JSM change management, service desks, portals, and Assets owned by that role. Achieve concurrence for any proposed best-practice changes. Coordinate to ensure that any modifications to these platforms maintain operational continuity.
  • Mentor IT users and provide guidance on Atlassian best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Atlassian Community and vendor support to resolve technical issues.
  • Support Project Portfolio Management and reporting capabilities in Jira Standard using tools like multi-project dashboards, JQL, and automation (again, in close coordination with the TPPM for any implementations owned by that role).

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 4+ years of hands-on Atlassian administration experience (Jira Software Standard, Jira Service Management Premium, Confluence, and Assets) in Cloud environments.
  • Solid experience configuring and managing Jira schemes (workflows, permissions, issue types, screens, field configurations), JQL, Automation rules, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Confluence space administration, templates, and macros at a departmental or enterprise level.
  • Excellent requirements-gathering and stakeholder-engagement skills - comfortable participating in and leading workshops and translating user needs into practical configurations.
  • Ability to work proactively, balance multiple priorities, and adapt to changing needs in a dynamic research-driven organization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work diplomatically and effectively with technical teams in a mission-driven setting.
  • Ability to embrace change and pivot in an environment of sometimes rapidly emerging new business and research objectives.
  • Experience supporting IT projects involving areas such as Windows/Linux servers, Networking, Information Security, and Help Desk operations.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Background in Linux or Windows systems administration.
  • Experience supporting IT projects involving areas such as DevSecOps, High Performance Computing, Information Security, and Enterprise Applications software development.
  • Experience contributing to Project Office or PPM activities in Jira.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or practical experience supporting agile processes.
  • Familiarity with federal grant requirements related to IT inventory or lab-equipment tracking.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing Atlassian Marketplace add-ons, with preference for free or low-cost solutions in budget-conscious environments.
