Job Overview

Title: Motors & Controls Technician

Reports to: Sr. Maintenance & Safety Manager

Location: Kent, WA


Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt (hourly)


Schedule: This Position is for 1st Shift

Hytek production is open 24 hours per day. All shifts are as follows: 1st shift (Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (Monday - Friday, 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.), 3rd shift (Sunday - Friday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.)

Salary Range for position: $ 32.00 - $ 45.00. The pay range and total compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to your relevant experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other employees. Position Summary

We are seeking a Motors & Controls Technician with a strong technical foundation and a natural ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial electrical and control systems.

This role is ideal for someone who has grown up fixing things; whether in a manufacturing plant, a family farm, construction sites, maintenance shops, or similar hands??'on environments, and is comfortable working with motors, controls, and equipment that doesn't come with a manual solution.

You will work with motor control systems, PLC??'connected equipment, VFDs, and both high??' and low??'voltage systems, supporting manufacturing and facility automation through practical problem??'solving and reliability improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial motors, motor controls, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving PLC??'connected equipment, VFDs, and 3??'phase power systems.
  • Produce clear, organized, and referenced electrical schematics and documentation.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and improve reliability
  • Apply systematic troubleshooting methods to identify root causes, not just symptoms.
  • Support upgrades, retrofits, and equipment improvements in partnership with engineering and operations.
  • Maintain compliance with NEC, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives.
  • Assist with cross??'training and mentoring other maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain high ethical standards, even under pressure.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Ideal Background & Experience

We value hands??'on technical experience, whether gained through formal training or real??'world problem??'solving. Strong candidates may have experience from:

  • Industrial manufacturing or production facilities
  • Family farming operations or agricultural equipment maintenance
  • Construction, electrical trades, or heavy equipment maintenance
  • Field service, maintenance shops, or mechanical repair environments



Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands??'on experience preferred
  • 5+ years in an industrial or heavy equipment environment strongly preferred
  • We welcome candidates with non??'traditional career paths who can demonstrate strong technical aptitude
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with motors, motor starters, relays, contactors, sensors, and control wiring
  • Familiarity with PLC??'controlled equipment and automated production systems
  • Experience diagnosing hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to use test equipment for troubleshooting, calibration, and verification
  • Comfort working from schematics, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Ability to communicate clearly with operators, engineers, and leadership
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Self??'starter who works well independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence and train others
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices



Required Qualifications

  • Must have a regular and dependable attendance record.
  • Ability to Read/Write Communicate in English with Customers and auditors.
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information and all applicants must satisfy U.S. export control regulations with authorization to work in the U.S. Non-U.S. persons would require an export license in order to work in the facility.

Work Environment:

  • Hearing protection required in certain areas.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Temperature fluctuations based on outdoor conditions.
  • PPE may be required: safety glasses/goggles, aprons, rubber boots, gloves, respirator (provided by company).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Regular exposure to work with high voltage electrical systems.
