Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.
Position Summary
Under general supervision, this Lead position serves as backup to the supervisor and provides support for daily maintenance operations. The role performs a wide range of skilled manual tasks related to general building and facilities maintenance. Responsibilities include performing basic maintenance and repairs using hand and power tools to troubleshoot, repair, or replace parts, components, and building systems. The position is also required to perform skilled work across multiple trades, including but not limited to carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
Minimum Qualifications

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE AREAS RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Must have a valid NC license.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in general building maintenance across multiple trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Experience serving in a lead or senior technician role, with the ability to provide guidance and support to other maintenance staff.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools related to facilities maintenance.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond effectively to routine and urgent maintenance requests.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate work and serve as backup to a supervisor.
