Quality Engineer

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Quality Engineer is an integral part of the Quality team within Silgan Plastics. This Quality Engineer will conduct several different types of analysis, testing and follow-up. Also, consistently ensuring that machines are set up correctly and reading measurements properly.

• MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to: Has a fundamental responsibility to ensure product safety and quality as it applies to all duties listed below:

• Promote a safe working environment
• Understands and adheres to all Silgan safety policies and procedures to prevent injury to self and co-workers

• Ownership of WinSPC system management. Ensure the WinSPC system is working properly throughout the facility. Work with Quality Manager and plant staff in managing the system. Setup new item numbers based on blueprints and documented specifications.
• Facilitate activities and data review during process capability analyses.
• Manage the AVBIS, ITES, AVID systems and other Quality measuring equipment: Set-ups, maintenance, calibrations, gage control...etc.
• Review Quality data daily then publish results and escalate issues as necessary.
• Follow-up on quality issues from Quality pass-down review and as directed by the Quality Manager.
• Create challenge samples for leak detection, metal detection, vision system, etc.
• Conduct annual GFSI/HACCP activities: air, light, water, swab, microbial testing.
• Participate in mock recall activities.
• Train employees in measurement techniques.
• Assist in quality procedural training and training of new employees.
• Other duties assigned by the Quality Manager.

EDUCATION:

Required: Associates

Preferred: Bachelors in a technical field

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 5 years in a Quality related field, strong SPC knowledge, manufacturing experience

Preferred: 5 years as a Quality Engineer in a plastics manufacturing environment.

SKILLS:

Required: SPC, measuring equipment and devices, daily data analysis, extremely strong Microsoft Suite experience, including Excel. A strong working knowledge of SPC and Quality experience in a manufacturing facility is integral for the role.

Preferred: Auditing experience
