Position Description

Starting Wage: $30.63 - $43.76/hour; depending on experience

Location: Everett, WA

Classification: Teamsters Union

Position Overview:

Responsible for safely transporting materials, tools, and equipment from the Everett warehouse to UMC jobsites and project locations. This is an Everett-based CDL-A driver role supporting local and regional logistics, including operation of tractor-trailers with flatbed and/or Conestoga trailers, as well as straight trucks. The role may include occasional interstate runs from Everett, Washington, with overnight travel averaging one night per week required when assigned. This position also provides limited warehouse support, including order preparation, equipment returns, inventory handling, and yard organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operate CDL-A commercial motor vehicles, including tractor-trailers with flatbed and/or Conestoga trailers.
  2. Operate straight trucks ranging from 1-ton to 5-ton vehicles.
  3. Deliver materials, tools, and equipment to jobsites, warehouse locations, and project sites.
  4. Complete local and regional deliveries, including occasional Everett-to-Boise interstate runs.
  5. Secure flatbed and irregular loads using straps, chains, binders, dunnage, and other approved load securement methods.
  6. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  7. Maintain accurate driver logs, ELD records, bills of lading, delivery paperwork, and proof-of-delivery documentation.
  8. Comply with DOT, FMCSA, company safety, and drug/alcohol testing requirements.
  9. Coordinate delivery timing with warehouse, field, project, and receiving teams.
  10. Report vehicle defects, delivery delays, load issues, safety concerns, and jobsite exceptions promptly.
  11. Support warehouse operations as needed, including staging, loading, unloading, equipment returns, inventory handling, and general yard organization.
  12. Maintain regular and punctual attendance as an essential job function.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Provide backup coverage for other drivers as needed.
  2. Assist with cleaning the warehouse, office, and outdoor yard areas.
  3. Perform light administrative tasks, such as filing, copying, and answering phones.
Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Clean driving record.
  2. Familiarity with tools, logistics, and warehouse functions.
  3. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to remain calm and adaptable under pressure.
  5. Capable of shifting priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  6. Effective problem-solving skills.
  7. Ability to read, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions.
  8. Basic math and measurement skills (per DOT standards: Reasoning Level 3; Math Level 2; Language Level 2).

Preferred Education and Experience:

  1. 5+ years of truck driving experience preferred.

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:

  1. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License required.
  2. Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate required.
  3. Must be eligible to operate as a CDL-A interstate commercial driver.
  4. Must participate in DOT drug and alcohol testing program.
  5. Must pass MVR check.
  6. Clean driving record required.
  7. Hazmat endorsement not required.
  8. Manual transmission operation not required.
  9. Flatbed and/or Conestoga experience preferred, but not required.

Travel and Schedule:

This role is based in Everett, Washington. Most work will consist of local and regional driving in support of UMC warehouse and jobsite logistics. The role may include occasional overnight interstate travel from Everett, averaging roughly one night per week. Overnight travel is expected to be no more than one night per week when assigned. Weekend work may be required based on project and delivery schedules.

Compensation:

This is a Teamsters-represented position. Pay will be based on the applicable Teamsters wage scale, and the successful candidate will be required to join the Teamsters as a condition of employment, subject to applicable law and collective bargaining agreement requirements. Compensation will be based on the applicable Teamsters wage scale for this classification.
