Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Research Scientist.

The Associate Research Scientist will work closely with Biostatistics faculty and clinical investigators in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology on application of statistical methods, data management, data workflows and monitoring across a wide range of areas. The Associate Research Scientist will work with clinical researchers to contribute to study design and protocol development, to perform statistical analysis, to contribute to data interpretation, and manuscript preparation. The Associate Research Scientist will engage with diverse datasets, including those from the electronic health record and clinical trials.

Job Responsibilities:

The Associate Research Scientist/Biostatistician will work closely with Biostatistics faculty and clinical investigators on statistical methods and applications. The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate discussions on study design between various labs, scientific staff, and clinical collaborators.
  • Assist with developing protocols for the collection and quality control of the research data.
  • Work closely with Biostatistics faculty and clinical investigators to become familiar with statistical methods and applications in a wide range of research areas.
  • Apply various statistical methodologies to perform data analysis and data interpretation accurately, under the guidance of a faculty member or senior staff member in Biostatistics.
  • Identify and resolve any technical problems related to the data manipulation and programming in the software used.
  • Have opportunities to make contributions to scientific literature by serving as a resource/author/co-author for papers, assisting with manuscript preparation, reports and presentations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all assigned research projects.
  • Implement research techniques and methodologies, provide feedback and suggestion for improvement.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the advances in specialized fields through attending scientific conferences and seminar series, reading scientific articles, participating in discussions during the staff meetings, etc.
  • Determine the need for and participate in establishing research policies, procedures and practices, when necessary.
  • Develop new ideas to enhance research efforts. Exercise a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding scientific research programs and activities.
  • Formulate and conduct research covering the scope and range of complex problems that arise from the research projects.
  • Offer occasional lectures to collaborating groups on study design, biostatistical analysis, and/or interpretation of results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS degree with at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master?s or doctoral degree in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative area and 2-4 years of relevant work experience. Qualified candidates must demonstrate proficiency in statistical methods for clinical trials, longitudinal and multivariate data, survival data analysis, and high-dimensional data analysis. Strong computational skills (i.e., proficiency in SAS, R, and/or Stata) are required. Candidates should have strong motivation and dependability, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, a commitment to reproducible research practices, team science, and strong oral and written communication skills. Additionally, candidates with experience working with electronic health record and administrative data (vital records, Medicaid/Medicare or other claims data) and with training or experience in reproductive epidemiology or application of statistical methods to clinical obstetrics and gynecology are highly desired.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $90,000.00-$100,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
