About the Job

This intern position is part of TRC's grant-funded "Ecosystems of STEM Careers" program, happening in Summer 2026. The internship part of this program will give 10 interns the opportunity to learn more about STEM careers, with an emphasis on conservation fields. This program will primarily happen on the University's St. Paul campus, but will also include off-site visits to nearby environmental science partners. Students will engage in hands-on research opportunities, interact with professionals in STEM careers, and research a conservation topic of their choosing and present their research in a digital format.

Intern roles and responsibilities

* Attend internship sessions with an engaged and professional attitude

* Communicate with Raptor Center staff about scheduling needs, as they arise

* Complete internship activities in a timely manner

* Complete a conservation research project, including: topic selection, source analysis, and presentation

* Complete pre and post internship surveys

Work Schedule

* 4 week position, running from June 15th to July 10th, 2026.

* 9am-3pm Monday-Friday, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch.

* No work on University holidays (June 19th and July 3rd

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

* Must be enrolled in a public or public charter high school in Minneapolis or St. Paul proper

* Must be entering into grade 10, 11, or 12 in Fall 2026

Program/Unit description

Established in 1974 as part of the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, The Raptor Center (TRC) is an internationally renowned organization caring for raptors and the world we share with them. TRC provides environmental education and public outreach to approximately 100,000 people annually through its live bird programing utilizing a cohort of 30 education raptors. TRC also rehabilitates sick and injured raptors, while helping to identify emerging environmental issues related to raptor health and populations. https://www.raptor.umn.edu/

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
