About the Position

As the Air Quality Communication Systems Analyst, you will serve as a valuable resource and a critical member of a large and diverse team committed to improving and protecting Maricopa County's air quality. The position focuses on providing professional-level fieldwork on communication systems equipment, maintenance of databases and servers, research, analysis, and implementation of technology enhancements within the division in coordination with other county departments and vendors. In this role, you will utilize a variety of hands-on and computer-based skills and technology to provide the vital link between the production of air quality data and its dissemination to our internal and external customers.

We Require

  • Two years of computer hardware and software experience, including local and wide area network hardware and software

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Natural Sciences, or a relevant field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Other Requirements

  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona Driver's license by the time of hire

  • Two years of professional analytical experience, includes installing, programming, and using communications hardware such as RV55/MP70 modems in the field

  • Management of Microsoft SQL Server databases including data acquisition, evaluation and system operational analysis

  • Network data remote communication acquisition experience

  • Instrument communication experience using MODBUS and serial communication

  • Experience troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining personal computers, local area network, and wide area network hardware and software

  • Experience working with state, local, and federal agencies on air monitoring rules, regulations and policies

  • Experience working in the AirVision database system or Unicon IMPACT database

  • Experience in air quality or air monitoring

  • Experience with ESC 8864 or equivalent data loggers, Teledyne, Thermo Scientific, Sabio, or other ambient air monitoring equipment

Job Contributions

  • Update and maintain the AirVision Database to manufacturer specifications acting as the Administrator for the database. This includes using Microsoft SQL Database Server to perform maintenance and upgrade the client

  • Establish, upgrade, and maintain the division's communication technologies utilizing ESC 8864 data loggers and RV55/MP70 Modems. Maintain AirVision communication with instruments in the field using MODBUS and Serial communication. This includes proposing updates to the existing system, running cables and investigating outages

  • Create and update documentation relating to the division's maintenance of the AirVision Database, IMPACT Database, and outreach kiosks utilizing Visio

  • Operate a vehicle and communicate with colleagues to install, maintain, or repair modems, kiosks, and computers at the 23 air monitoring sites and 2 public outreach locations at the Arizona Science Center and Phoenix Zoo

  • Maintain the Division AirVision Webmap, division websites, SharePoint, and public outreach kiosks

  • Preparing documentation and providing training to staff in the operation and maintenance of new or existing systems

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Ability to move objects up to 25 pounds, lifting floor-to-waist, and pushing/ pulling up to 25 pounds.

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards and noise and vibration.

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
