Job Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at MCCCD is looking for a professional Audio Visual Specialist Senior to meet the related technology needs of the campus community. Under the direction of the IT Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, consistency, and instructional readiness of audio visual (AV) systems that support teaching, learning, and campus events. This will be accomplished by providing senior-level operational leadership and technical support for classroom and event AV systems.

The successful candidate will use their leadership abilities and technical expertise to keep AV equipment operational while enhancing services to meet campus needs. Essential Functions

30% - Classroom & Event AV Support (L1 / L2):
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting, repair, and operational support for classroom and event audiovisual systems, including displays, projectors, microphones, speakers, cameras, control systems, and conferencing technologies.
  • Responds rapidly to in-class AV issues to minimize instructional disruption and restore service; supports faculty and staff with the operation and effective use of AV systems, providing clear guidance and instruction as needed.
  • Diagnoses issues related to signal flow, connectivity, control interfaces, and device interoperability, escalating appropriately when issues exceed break-fix scope.

25% - Preventative Maintenance, Standards & Lifecycle Support:
  • Develops and executes preventative maintenance routines for classroom and event AV systems to improve uptime and reduce recurring failures; maintains and enforces AV standards aligned with industry best practices (e.g., AVIXA / CTS), ensuring consistency across instructional spaces.
  • Creates and maintains signal flow diagrams, system documentation, and room profiles to support troubleshooting, training, and vendor coordination; identifies aging, unreliable, or end-of-life AV components and supports lifecycle planning and refresh recommendations.

25% - Vendor & Installation Team Coordination:
  • Coordinates escalated AV issues, repairs, and replacements with internal installation teams and external vendors.
  • Supports acceptance testing and validation of vendor-performed work to ensure compliance with standards, documentation requirements, and operational expectations.
  • Acts as the primary campus liaison for AV service vendors, ensuring clear communication, issue tracking, and resolution follow-through; supports AV-related projects such as classroom or lab refreshes by coordinating schedules, access, and operational readiness (without performing system design or installation).

15% - Documentation, Training & Knowledge Management:
  • Develops and maintains AV documentation, troubleshooting guides, preventative maintenance checklists, and user-facing instructional materials.
  • Trains faculty, staff, and support personnel on proper use of AV systems and common troubleshooting steps; contributes to knowledge base content and service documentation to support consistent support delivery.

5% - Continuous Improvement & Other Duties:
  • Researches and recommends improvements to AV support processes, tooling, and workflows that enhance reliability and service quality; identifies opportunities for standardization, automation, and efficiency within AV support operations
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and four years (4) of experience with supporting audio visual and multimedia systems, hardware and software and end-users of audio visual systems.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience using AV control systems such as Crestron, Extron, or AMX, including system operation and troubleshooting.
  2. Experience developing and adhering to systems maintenance schedule.
  3. Experience developing AV documentation, signal flow diagrams, and room standards.
  4. Possession of current, related certification such as Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or CTS-I or manufacturer-specific training.
  5. Experience coordinating AV vendors and validating vendor-delivered work.
  6. Experience with signal flow, audio/video distribution, and AV-over-IP fundamental.


Special Working Conditions

This position is a Districtwide resource that will have regional responsibility throughout Mesa, Tempe, Phoenix.

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License may be required for some assignments; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: https://district.maricopa.edu/administrative-regulations/4-auxiliary-services/4-14

This role requires a physical presence on campus. May be required to:
  • Work evenings and weekends.
  • Sit for a prolonged period of time viewing a computer monitor.
  • Lift or carry up to 25lbs.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions.
  • Work in an area of light to heavy noise levels.
  • Climb stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at heights
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.
