Job Function Summary:

Involves the provision of patient-level financial and clinical data and analysis to inform the medical center or health system's operational, financial and strategic decision making. Includes the development of a case-based operating budget for patient volume, detailed utilization projections and gross revenue. Oversees the service line profitability reporting, the cost accounting system, and the decision support system integration of clinical and financial data in a patient-centric repository. Provides for the measurement and benchmarking of business operations in relation to best business practices for the healthcare industry and internal business objectives.

Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Applies extensive knowledge of industry practices in health care decision support and advanced professional concepts to substantial projects, typically at high degrees of complexity.

Develops and recommends new metrics, systems, and processes to improve the value of decision support activities and efficiencies
Performs highly complex queries and may take the lead on producing regular analyses and investigations of performance, utilization, clinical programs, market trends, and financial analyses
Leads project teams to develop and optimize tools and sources for modeling data
Delivers highly-complex financial and statistical information in the development of multi-year capital and operating budgets, including making recommendations to management to improve the budget-development process
Collaborates with key personnel across departments to explain variances and to identify and resolve financial or procedural problems
Leads projects and / or serves as an information resource on teams involved with business development planning and the implementation and integration of new programs
Collaboratively produces feasibility studies, evaluations of ROI, and creates pro forma financial statements for new or potential programs or expansion of service lines

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Req / Pref
In-depth understanding of decision support systems, with knowledge of business statistics, quantitative methods, relational databases, business development scorecards, data modeling, and performance and profitability analysis
In-depth knowledge of issues and aspects of clinical finance, planning, financial data management, budget development, and business development
Proficiency in utilizing the tools to produce comprehensive, studies and actionable intelligence
Advanced organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule
Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead projects and teams and collaborate productively on highly-complex projects with key personnel at all professional and technical levels
Advanced written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey highly sophisticated technical and financial information in a clear, concise manner, and to make cogent presentations of analyses, reports, and investigation results
