Keep the City moving-one repair at a time. The City of Corona is seeking a highly skilled Senior Fleet Technician to join our dedicated team of professionals who keep essential vehicles and equipment operating safely and efficiently. In this advanced, journeyman-level role, you won't just turn wrenches-you'll take ownership of diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a diverse fleet that includes everything from light-duty vehicles to fire apparatus and heavy construction equipment. Working under general supervision, you'll tackle complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic systems with confidence and independence. Whether you're overhauling engines, troubleshooting advanced diagnostics, or ensuring frontline emergency vehicles are ready when it matters most, your expertise will directly support the services our community relies on every day. This position works a 4/10 schedule.
Application Process Applications will be accepted through Monday, June 1, 2026, 12:00pm with a first review date of May 18, 2026. Candidates that successfully pass the screening process will be invited for an in-person oral interview tentatively scheduled for June 16, 2026. Select candidates may be invited to a second interview. Those who pass the oral interviews will be placed on an eligibility list that is good for up to 1 year unless exhausted sooner by the department. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening). Education and Experience
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Three (3) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy, medium and light duty vehicles, fire apparatus equipment or construction equipment, including specialized vocational training in automotive repair and diagnostic practices; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses and Certifications
- Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Either a Class A or Class B driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of date of hire, and ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
- A Class M1 driver's license is highly desirable.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, an ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification or ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification within 18 months of date of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a Fire Mechanic Certification within 18 months of date of hire.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of diesel, gasoline, and natural gas-powered vehicles and related equipment.
- Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand power and shop tools, and equipment used in the work.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use shop mathematics to make calculations.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures of shop and field welding.

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is $422.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $231.3 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 935 dedicated employees who provide high-quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
