About the Role The Senior Manager, Accounting Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all transactional accounting functions across global operations, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Inventory, and Treasury. This role provides strategic oversight, ensures operational excellence, and drives process standardization, automation, and compliance across high-volume financial workflows. This leader will partner cross-functionally to enhance financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and deliver accurate, timely financial data to support decision-making. This is a hybrid position is based in Glen Allen, Virginia and reports to the Senior Director, Controller. What You'll Do
- Provide leadership over Accounts Receivable (including Credit & Collections), Accounts Payable, Inventory Accounting, and Treasury operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant execution of high-volume transactional processes through managers and supervisors.
- Oversee inventory accounting and treasury activities, including costing, valuation, cash positioning, forecasting, and working capital optimization.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for complex vendor, customer, and internal financial issues requiring cross-functional coordination.
- Lead key aspects of the monthly close process for transactional areas, including journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and reserve calculations in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial data supporting enterprise reporting.
- Identify process inefficiencies, control gaps, and scalability operations; drive improvements through automation, ERP optimization, and standardized procedures.
- Establish and maintain SOPs to support a consistent and scalable shared services operating model.
- Partner cross-functionally with Procurement, Operations, Customer Service, IT, and other stakeholders to optimize financial processes and provide actionable insights.
- Act as a primary liaison for external auditors, ensuring audit readiness and timely resolution of issues.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX, and internal control requirements; strengthen and monitor controls, proactively identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of transactional functions (AR, AP, Inventory, Treasury) within high-volume or shared services environments.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance, with experience managing financial operations in ERP systems and leveraging automation to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement, standardization, and scalable solutions across complex accounting operations.
- Proven leadership experience developing high-performing teams through managers, with strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment.
