What You Will Do in This Role?
- Act as a technical lead on multiple complex, integrated mechanical design projects from kickoff through implementation
- Design, analyze, prototype, test, and troubleshoot mechanisms and cosmetic parts using advanced engineering design methods and best practices
- Develop and drive innovative design processes to ensure quality, cost, schedule, and performance goals are achieved
- Utilize tools and equipment such as 3D printers, lasers, manual and CNC mills to prototype parts and instruments, including test setups with strain gages
- Perform structural analysis and evaluate dynamic mechanical performance; plastics experience strongly preferred
- Oversee development of prototypes and fabrication of working electromechanical mockups
- Support manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and sales teams as needed, including travel to Hayes when required
- Interface with manufacturing partners during design transfer and transition to mass production
- Design and review manufacturing test fixtures and procedures; review and approve initial production samples
- Analyze and test field returns to determine root cause and implement corrective actions
- Contribute to product risk analysis, usability, verification, validation, and certification testing efforts
- Identify and escalate technical risks and collaborate with crossfunctional teams to resolve issues
- Lead and participate in design reviews and project update presentations, creating clear visual and technical materials
- Continuously research and propose innovative technologies, materials, and processes
- Identify opportunities for intellectual property protection and support patent development
- Participate in ISO and AAMI standards development and maintain consistent, professional technical communication
What You Will Need for This Role?
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field required
- 3-5 years of experience designing products in the medical, consumer, automotive, or aerospace industry
- Medical device experience ideal but not required
- Exceptional 3D CAD skills; SolidWorks strongly preferred, including parametric and topdown "master model"driven assemblies
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM or another PDM/PLM system
- Strong understanding of massproduction manufacturing processes, including injection molding, blow molding, welded steel structures, sheet metal stamping and forming, die casting, and CNC technologies
- Handson prototyping experience, including setting up and running tests
- Experience with structural analysis (FEA) and mechanical performance evaluation preferred
- Experience in DFM, DFA, DFMEA, or other riskbased design strategies
- Familiarity with EE and embedded firmware disciplines preferred
- Experience designing for agency certifications (ISO, IEC, AAMI, UL, CE, CISPR, FCC, FDA); 60601 experience is a significant plus
- Prior experience interfacing with certification bodies (Intertek, UL, TUV) preferred
- Experience working in Scrum or projectmanagement environments (Jira, Monday, Todoist, etc.)
- Demonstrated financial acumen
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
- A mechanically minded, handson engineer who enjoys tinkering, building, and designing in their free time
- Ability to travel up to 25% (domestic and international)
