Job Summary:

The Chemistry Lab Technician I supports routine chemical testing of food products and ingredients by performing foundational laboratory tasks such as solution preparation, sample processing, and equipment maintenance. This role works under close supervision and follows established procedures to ensure accuracy, quality, and safety in all testing activities.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare solutions and reagents according to approved testing methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform sample preparation activities including weighing, grinding, and homogenization
  • Conduct basic proximate analyses using laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens, furnaces, and extractors.
  • Execute chemistry testing procedures and sample extractions in accordance with SOPs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces, glassware, and workstations.
  • Support daily lab operations including waste disposal, sanitization, and routine cleaning.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, verification of supplies, and basic equipment upkeep.
  • Complete required training and comply with company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Identify, document, and escalate deviations, nonconformances, or unusual results to supervisory staff.
  • Perform allergen testing according to company SOP
  • Ability to perform aseptic handling
  • Follow ISO and internal QA/QC requirements during all testing activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/ or management.

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Life Science or related field required.
  • 0-1 year of laboratory experience (academic or professional) preferred.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety and general lab procedures.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer components
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud
  • Temperature varies from hot to cold
  • Interactive and fast-paced team-oriented tasks
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Color vision and depth perception
