Mead & Hunt is currently looking for a Roadway Design Leader to join our well-established Raleigh-based Transportation team. This role will sit in our Raleigh, NC office and offers flexibility along with an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule with a collaborative and supportive team that values work-life balance. This is a unique leadership opportunity to step into a highly visible role with the ability to grow a local roadway group and build a strong team.

This position will serve as the local roadway leader, supporting a strong and diverse backlog of transportation projects. The Raleigh team has a proven history of winning high-profile, competitive projects with NCDOT and other clients, offering long-term stability and growth potential.

The majority of projects are located within North Carolina and minimal travel is required for this position.

The Raleigh office has an extensive NCDOT portfolio and regularly pursues and delivers some of the most complex and interesting roadway projects in the state. Recent work includes interchange improvements along I85 and I485 on the west side of Charlotte, as well as design of grade separations for a major section of the Raleigh-to-Richmond rail project.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the local roadway design leader on NCDOT and other transportation projects
  • Provide leadership in staffing, hiring, and team development to support local work
  • Oversee and support roadway design projects from preliminary through final design
  • Supervise the technical development and delivery of projects
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff
  • Coordinate with clients and support successful project execution
  • Support proposals, scopes of work, and workload planning
  • Perform QA/QC review of roadway design deliverables

The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Roadway design experience
  • Experience working on DOT transportation projects
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
