As a Dental Assistant with the Department of Corrections, you will help make essential dental services possible for the inmate population. Your work will support the dentist at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township and help keep the clinic running efficiently. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the dental clinic by assisting with procedures, patient care, and daily operations. The role ensures that the dental team can provide safe and effective treatment. As a Dental Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
- Chairside Support: Assist the dentist during procedures and help ensure tools and materials are ready
- Patient Imaging: Take and process radiographs and confirm they meet diagnostic standards
- Procedure Preparation: Set up workspaces, sterilize instruments, and mix required materials
- Records Management: Organize dental records, schedule appointments, and maintain required documentation
- Lab Assistance: Prepare lab forms, invoices, and packages for dental appliances
- Patient Guidance: Explain preventive care information and post-procedure instructions to patients

- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in a dental office or clinic; or
- Successful completion of an accredited Dental Assisting certificate program; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires the successful completion of the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Exam as required by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
