Transportation Construction Inspector

As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for construction inspection in the County Highway Occupancy Permit Office to ensure compliance with department regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the review and issuance of highway occupancy permits. You will inspect the placement of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage materials, and all other applicable materials, as well as assist with checking grades, elevations, structure stake-outs, and roadway stake-out, with contractors and surveyors. In addition, you will research existing construction plans to determine legal right-of-way widths, and interpret new plans and specifications submitted by applicants for future highway construction projects. You will be tasked with identifying violations, issuing formal citations to document violations, and providing corrective action plans in order to reach a resolution. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be regularly communicating with department staff, legislators, the general public, and other federal, state, and local agencies to ensure for effective administration of projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
