Corrections Utility Plant Operator - SCI Chester

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator for the Department of Corrections, you will help keep the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester. This position focuses on operating and maintaining boiler systems, cooling systems, and related equipment that support SCI Chester's daily functions. Your work is essential to keeping the institution safe, stable, and efficient. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• Boiler Operation: Maintain and monitor water tube boilers using manual and automatic controls
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine and non-routine upkeep on pumps, fans, and related machinery
• Water Testing: Test boiler water and track chemical inventories and treatment needs
• Housekeeping Tasks: Keep plant areas clean and complete daily inventory checks
• Inmate Oversight: Supervise inmate workers, maintain security, and conduct searches for safety
• Daily Communication: Report concerns to supervisors and complete all assigned documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
